You'll be ok. I live near grenoble and haven't got around to getting mine yet.
If by any chance you happen to want to drive in grenoble on a day when it's only cat2 or 3 allowed, AND you happen to get stopped, just play ignorance.
I wouldn't worry.

We got ours a couple of months ago, it took less than a week to arrive, and cost less than €5. We did drive round the Peripherique 2 weeks ago, whilst I did see quite a lot of other cars with stickers there were loads without, and TBH I was concentrating too much to be able to look at the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen of the cars around me.

We got one for our trip to the alps - didn't end up needing it but it was so cheap that we thought we may as well. But equally I don't think it would have been an issue if we hadn't. (We took the motorway through Lyon and went past Grenoble but not properly into either of them)

It's just another French tax innit and a way of extracting funds from foreign drivers (see all the previous things you were supposed to carry with you like breath test kits, warning triangles, spare bulbs, fluoro jackets etc. the list is endless).

But hey, it's cheap and if it means you are less likely to get stopped by 'les rozzeurs' (pronounced in an 'allo 'allo stylie) then it's gotta be worth it.

It took about 20 minutes of my time and €9 for 2 vehicles. It wasn't a massive deal - the biggest thing about going to the continent now is how expensive everything is due to the collapse of the £.

MTB-idle - ALL cars have to have one so its not a foreign driver tax.
All the others you mention are also applicable to ALL drivers not just Johny Foreigner
