As above really. Visiting Montenegro and want to use my android phone as a driving gps without needing to connect to the internet. The phones a HTC one x and comes with a google maps gps installed, but it needs a data connection to download maps and directions. Is there anything out there?
Cheers all
Not sure if it's available for Android, but CoPilot Live is very good, and a lot cheaper than TomTom.
Yup, here you go:

The one reason I have stuck with my Nokia, rather than Android or Apple is the totally free satnav that comes with them. Offline maps, native GPS (ie no need for network assisted positioning).
CoPilot +1.
NavFree on the iphone but I am changing to Android when my contract ends the end of this month and have checked to see if google play offer the same service and they do.
CoPilot Live Premium is good. Just go on their website and check that all the countries you need are covered by that particular set of included maps.
I used sat nav by Skobbler to get me to Germany. I think there's a lite version available on Android. I paid £4.99 for the whole of Europe. You then download the countries you need. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to download them - they're big. It's not as polished as something like tomtom but for the price, it's been excellent value. It usually tells you the speed limit for the road and has lots of fixed speed camera locations stored. Uses crowd sourced info.
Incidentally, I met a couple at a wedding a couple of weekends ago who'd just come back from (another wedding in) Montenegro. They said it was stunning there. Enjoy.

Every phone does this if you turn data/roaming off. All the network thing does is speed up the initial location find, as the network gives a rough enough location to assist the GPS in which sats to expect rather than cycling through loads.
NavFree seems to work - there are few out there, best thing is to have a play & use them to navigate to places you know & see what you like best.
Also consider paying for CamerAlert as speed camera alerts are "illegal" in France so most commercial makers have taken those out. Given the hair-trigger thresholds on the cameras, it's paid for itself for me in one trip down to the Vosges (I got a 50e fine for being 8kmph over the 100kmph limit recently).
Cheers for the advice one and all, I'll have a browse and look. Ideally something cheap as it won't be used once I get home! The country does look stunning, 28 degrees and sunny at the mo...
