I’ve not driven my old boxster in about 3 months, it’s literally been sitting on driveway with battery detached.

Anything to consider before I start it up again? I’m thinking in particular that the oil is probably all drained to sump so can I just drive it gently for 20 miles to get it all moving again ?

On my 951, if it's not been driven for months in the past, I pulled the DME relay out. That kills the fuel pump and ECU.
Crank it over until it builds oil pressure.
Put the relay back and start it.

No idea if that's suitable for a Boxster.

Gonna be lots of scraping noises from the rusty brake rotors.

Big hammer?

I'll bet it'll be fine. It's 3 months not 3 years.

Not really mate just fire it up. Let it warm up

Check tyres for damage flat spot etc

Or a ford

Used to do this after long stints at work.

Id walk round. Tires are still inflated. Jump in and turn the key.

Nature of my work was I could be away for 3 days or 3 months wouldn't really know so didn't really prep.

Worst I had was when I came home.in beast of east and the car was buried down the drive in 3ft of snow +drifts......and the drive was little over a mile and no one had been up it on more than their feet in 3 weeks. The car started fine and gave it a good go at getting out :/ -and that was french too !

Make sure you fit your winter tyres first

Hopefully you know how to power the electric boot release on a boxster to open it and reattach the battery? Then make sure you battery is charged, then warm up well and off for a gentle drive?

Sounds like a bad idea- too much risk and all value is now gone. I’ll do you a favour and come pick it up. I won’t even charge you for it.

Seriously though after 3 months nothing to worry about. Oil will recirculate in seconds. Maybe give it a minute or two idling before driving off just to let a teeny bit of temperature build, drive gently for a bit until the temp gauge is more or less at normal range.

Oh - and worth a quick check of coolant, brake fluid, tyre pressures etc before driving off, just to be on the safe side.

Just a tip re: oil temps. My RS5 had an oil temp gauge. When the water temp hit's 90, the oil is nowhere near  - takes another 5 mins of driving to get the oil temp up

Check fluid levels and tyres, pressures, etc
Spark plugs out to reduce compression before making sure that you've got oil pressure
Go gently until you're sure that everything works

After just three months I wouldn't worry about it really, just let it warm up before you set off, and make sure everything works before hand. Indicators lights, and so on. Unless you know something is wrong, I wouldn't expect anything to be wrong with the engine after that short a time.

… assuming he can get the handbrake off.

I parked my old Corsa in Aviemore for a week and the hand brake seized on, had to drive a few 100m down the road before it released. After that, I never used the handbrake again for parking, just left it in gear...

Warming up a car by idling is bad causes excess wear. The car takes longer to warm up that way (Vs driving off), so is running for longer with cold, heavy oil that's not quite doing its job properly. A couple of seconds to circulate oil is all that's needed

Start car, drive on the left. I know it’s obvious 🙂

OP I am sure you are busy with work, doing the sprouts, etc.....but did it start and drive, or did you end up in a fireball;)

He's still trying to get it towed.
After 3 hours trying to get at the battery, it started, idled too long from cold, scored a cylinder bore then catastrophic IMS failure lunched it completely.

The recovery truck couldn't tow it as the Brembo callipers had suffered terminal plate lift and all 4 wheels jammed solid.

Alternatively the op started it and drove off
