I need to drill a couple of 10mm holes into exposed breeze block to hang a TV. I’ve drilled into this in the past and found it a bit crumbly. I know the damage will be out of sight, but would you recommend drilling a pilot hole and gradually stepping it up?

I’m not fussed if a bit chips off in the process, but I don’t want the bit to skate around.

Thanks!

Depends on the breeze block. Sometimes you hit a bit of clinker and that can stop you dead.

Just drill your hole. If it gets too big bung some filler in before you plut your plug in.

Don't overthink it.

In soft / unstable material I always drill a narrower hole than I need as the drill bit will move about and make the hole bigger than you expected, so drill 8mm for 10mm hole etc.

If it's the soft breeze blocks, then I normally drill with out the hammer on, that way it doesn't smash it's way through the block. Takes a few seconds longer per hole
