hey ive been trying to convert from 2x10 to 1x10... absolute black had an offering in which i could put a 30t chainring in 64bcd so would sit on the smaller ring and allow for a bashgaurd in place of the larger ring, this sounded great as meant i didnt need to change cranks so i went ahead and purchased. Arrived in good time and installed only to find it problematic... the chainline is awful but the company keep telling me its great, perhaps i just have a higher standard then them but i cant help but think if the chainline was just moved over slightly it would work so much better and cause less wear on my mparts....

i thiought getting a single specific cranks or switching to a triple and mounting it in the middle ring would this give a better chainline? I thought it would but absolute black tell me that it will be worse and that im best to stick with the 2x10 drive train and 64bcd 30t chainring as it has a better chainline.. which isnt good, there must be a better solution? any ideas people?

Yeah a triple with the single ring on the middle gives the correct chainline

Both my bikes are set up 1x10, one with 32t the other 34t and can't say theres any noticeable difference in the chainline. However they are not fitted in the granny position. On a double the outer chainring will be better. Triple is better if you want a bash (which I have on my triple set up, but ive made do without on the double crank set up as its only a xc bike.

cool thanks yea i got the 64bcd 30t chainring so i oculd use on the double with a bash but it just gives an awful chainline being on the granny. absolute black told me that id get a worse chainline by mounting a chainring on the larger ring? which goes against what i thought and what ive been told.
