Just had a quote of £1066 for double glazing and door fitted, does it sound right to you seams a bit on the steep side to me?

Window is total of 150x 175 cm with 2 top hung windows at 48cm high

door is 84 x 250 with door height 198 and fixed window above.

?????????

They're certainly not ripping you off at that price. You'll do well to get it significantly cheaper. Sounds a very fair price. Assume maybe £350 for the door, £180 for the window and £80 for the toplight. Add the cost of fixings, sealants, trims etc, making good inside might need plaster too. It's not a hugely complicated job to do, but for a couple of hundred quid of fitting charge, not worth the hassle of tooling up and learning to do yourself, unless you were happy to do a houseful. Then these days, unless you get them fitted by a Fensa firm, you need the local Council bod to sign it off, and take a big fee. This is assuming remove and refit new, rather than straight fit into something like a new porch etc, in which case your price might be a tad high.

1066 . . .

I wonder if they base all their quotes on significant dates in history?

Hi the quote was from vision windows up in Sheffield, they should be doing me a good rate as was given there number by a contractor we use with a nod and a wink! but always worth checking these things as this is the only quote ive got , in the belief that they'll do me a good turn.

Sounds about right. We just got a quote of £1300 for a new composite front door with a couple of very small windows either side.

Tell them you think that's far too much and you have a mate who will do the job for a packet of biscuits.

midlifecrashes analysis is sound, 700 odd for the materials, 350 for labour, depends on how much work is needed to fit and make good after but it would take a diyer a good while to get this right..

I assume you mean some PVCu items? If you're not happy with the quote then get some more. There are plenty of firms both big and small to choose from.

mlc seems on the ball with their comments.

Hi, yeah there UPVC items , i do think they would give me a fair quote and I know the quality of their workmanship will be good. So we have agreed 1k. Not an area i really deal with and you see such wide ranging quotes from the big players that its hard to know.

Thanks for everybodys help
