We will likely be holidaying in Dorset this summer.

Recommendations for nice campsites and beaches?

We're a family of 4, with two teenage daughters and a dog.

Looking for quiter, charming, understated options, campsite preferably near a beach.

Gravel or MTB riding (for me/Mrs HTO) from the tent flap a bonus, but not essential!

Cheers.

Had a couple of nice stays at golden cap in Seatown. Handy for the beach and there are a couple of nice pubs. It's a mix of statics, camping and glamping. It's quite small so might be busy in season. Only been when it's quiet. Nice walks nearby. Not sure about riding.

Burnbake near Swanage is a great spot

One thing to note is that during the summer some beaches dogs aren't allowed on, usually May-Sept, so whatever suggestions the good people of STW give you, best have a google and see what the score is in that regard.

Avoid Bournemouth & Weymouth, they're a horror show of pensioners and chavs. Studland is always a cracker, but traffic is horrendous at peak times. Durdle Door is a nice but a steep climb up/down, some sites nearby too I think. Lulworth is small, gets busy but some good riding around there.

Some nice rides up along the hills between Swanage and Corfe, you could probably map a ride that goes from one end of the Isle of Purbeck to the other.

West Dorset has some nice beaches too, pushing out towards Lyme Regis from Weymouth. Worth a map recce on Google to see what catches your eye.

Lots of little campsites around the purbecks/ Wareham etc but limited sites near/ with view of sea. Great gravel/ mtb riding that area though. lots of bridleways and byways that are great fun in the summer and pretty well linked.

Burnbake is good and cycle able to Studland if can't be arsed with traffic.

there is a big site at eweleaze farm that's open for august - it's a bit like a mini festival with pizza shacks and a Turkish bath house, shepherds hut sauna, crepe shack etc. Its got its own private beach, free hot showers etc and you can buy wood and have campfires!

We have found some nice sites in south Devon but often not right on the sea.
