That is pretty harsh though. Admittedly the iOS waterproof one was pretty blatant, but I can see why people who aren't hugely techie would think that may work.
Because if they were hugely techie then they would have a check of someone reporting back on the results? Agreed that it is a bit harsh. Odd that it is so easy to do though! Would have thought some sort of failsafe, reset to factory settings process should be included with any access to stuff that can brick it...

Is there no "hard reset" jumper or something on the board? Resetting the BIOS or similar? Seems strange.
That's pretty unpleasant, even for 4chan.
Can readily see how people would fall for it; the lack of backwards compatibility is a big reason why I'm not rushing to upgrade, I've got far too much invested in the 360. Several hundred quid's worth of Rock Band / Guitar Hero games and accessories, for a start.
Reverse-compatibility is prevented by architectural differences betwixt the platforms, not software (x86 vs PowerPC). Admittedly, the uninitiated would probably not know that...
There must be some kind of OS flash available...?
