I signed up to be a donor on DKMS (was Delete Blood Cancer) did the cheek swab etc. about 18 months ago

well it turns out I’ve matched with someone (less than 1% of registered donors do)

need to go through some blood screening and stuff, but I feel pretty proud to have the opportunity to help someone

I’m not even sure what made me sign up, but if you want to you can here

dkms.org

sorry but I just had to share

Good luck and get the samples sorted ASAP.

I matched through Anthony Nolan after being on the register for 5 years. Unfortunately after taking blood samples nothing more happened. Either my match didn’t last long enough or there wasn’t much point in doing the transfusion 😕

Blood being taken 9am Wednesday, they said it could then be up to 3 months which does seem a bit slow. One sample goes to London another to germany

You ever fancied being a magicians assistant?

Hope it works out

I did it last year, one via bone marrow transplant and once via the dyalsis type method g something or other. Feels good to have done one good thing in my life. Felt shit for a few days but jot that bad that was about it. Very easy good experience. Two days off work both times that was all.

Every one should register, the discomfort is minimal, the potential is maximum.

Nice one!

My mum received stem cells last October.

I've registered in Germany, as has my GF. Despite registering in Germany my blood could be needed anywhere in the world....!

Matched via Anthony Nolan about 15 years ago, donated via the week long dose of growth factor and filter the blood. Was shattered after for a week or two but fine really.

Met my recipient a couple of years ago.

Both the proudest and saddest thing I've done.

I donated just over 12 years ago, and luckily they changed the rules on reaching out to the donor

I wish I had the guts to reply back to the family, but it'll have been a long time ago so why open old wounds.
