I suppose he's rather busy picking up his dummies after today's ruling. Bet he's also steaming that Britain won't let him stage an Iranian attack from any British bases.
What a big baby he is!! This incoherent rambling nonsense of a sulking strop is hilarious!
President Donald Trump called the Supreme Court's decision to strike down his power to impose sweeping tariffs "deeply disappointing" at a news conference this afternoon, saying he was "ashamed" of some of the justices over the ruling. The president announced he would implement at 10% global tariff under the Trade Act of 1974, a separate law from the one that the court ruled did not grant him tariff authority.
And again...........
Vance saying that the Supreme's Court ruling is "lawless" has to be absolutely peak MAGA doesn't it? 😂
even though the SCOTUS explicitly didn't mention refunds a lot of businesses and politicians (rep & dem) are now asking for refunds
its going to crystallise in people's minds that tarrifs are not paid by other countries (as Trump loves to pretend) , but are really just another tax on the importers (and then gets passed down to consumers)
some dem politicians already making hay on this demanding a refund cheque for every one of their citizens
and now trump is saying he wants a 10% blanket tariff, which he will have to get congress to vote for ..... yeah those Republicans are going to love voting for a 10% tax rise in a midterm year ....
its quite impressive how much of a clownshow this all is
I genuinely think they have no real understanding what the rule of law is.
What it certainly isn’t is letting some unhinged Mad King do whatever the **** he likes.
They seem somewhat miffed to discover this.
I can just imagine the fit of juvenile petulance that this is about to unleash. It’ll probably be a press conference a day with him rambling like a madman and anouncing his latest unhinged (and probably illegal) brain-fart
war with Iran is the most likely way ue will try and reassert his alpha maleness
A very light punch in the nose for Trumpet but really how can a president get to pick the supreme court judges? Democracy my ass
Friday tariff shenans... again, lol! I think the financial markets will just shrug, I think we will hardly see a drop against general market noise and recovery and back to normal by wednesday.
The boy who cried wolf... same old playbook.
A very light punch in the nose for Trumpet but really how can a president get to pick the supreme court judges? Democracy my ass
I think the whole world can now see what a complete joke the sham of American ‘democracy’ is, when Trump rules like a medieval king, by decree, through executive orders.
This is the first real check on his power he’s had, which I’m sure he’ll quickly find his way round
And they have the bare-faced nerve to lecture the rest of the world about democracy?
It’s a Banana Republic, ruled by a deranged tinpot dictator!

The tariff thing is so transparent too,
- quietly sell stocks friday afternoon
- announce tarrifs
- Wait for market to panic
- buy the stocks back at a nice discount in time for a mid-week recovery.
- tidy profit
He's making millions doing this.
Granted the markets are wise to it now so each time he does the grift it's less profitable, but it's still free money for him.
It's got nothing to do with international trade, and everything to do with stuffing his own pockets with free money.
I’d imagine the various dodgy deals himself and his his family and friends are in on has raked them in tens of billions by now
I’ve never seen such naked corruption
Yeah people were joking that he's a broke business man, and maybe he was, but he sure as hell isn't now.
This is the first real check on his power he’s had,
It's the first big one to go all the way to the Supreme Court. However flawed their system, the Supreme Court has done it's job.
One of my mates seems to think that this tariff ruling will bring him down. I get that it's a check on his power and a slap on the wrist of sorts but it's hard to see it as anything more. Does anyone else think this is big enough to cause serious damage to the regime?
He's making millions doing this.
I absolutely 100% believe that he's venal and grasping enough to do this but is there any evidence that he is? Surely that's insider trading and something he or his minions could be prosecuted for?

I wouldnt go that far but theres reasons to be optimistic. Political gravity tends to win in the end, and while donny has had a good run, it's starting to look like he's finally on the way down. He looked like he was winning when he appointed a load of idiot lackeys all over the shop who would do anything he wanted. Unfortunately, they were still idiot lackeys, and they did anything he wanted. The consequences were masked goons murdering citizens and tariffs on penguins. That's all starting to bite.
Not out of the woods yet, not all of them are idiots. Bondi isnt, Vance isnt, and the cabal of tech bros who now have a taste for authoritarian power certainly arent.
Is anyone actually planning a trip to the US these days?

With that crew waiting in the wings it's entirely possible things will get worse, not better when he goes.

the damage hes doing to his reputation among republican voters is whats going to get him in trouble,, approval rating at an all time low, the republicans are losing every election going atm , debt levels rocketing, GDP is lower than expected, inflation is rising (unlike other Western countries) and now hes higlighting that his tariffs are an inflationary tax.
Nah, it's the cult of personality and he is the leader that for some reason millions of people think is charismatic.
Cut off the head of the snake and the rest of the body will wither away. The more normal GOP members will take back control. It will take time but his replacement won't have the mandate/support. The toxic nazi policies will still hurt people though
A very light punch in the nose for Trumpet but really how can a president get to pick the supreme court judges? Democracy my ass
Presidents don't 'pick' the Supreme Court judges as such. Presidents nominate them but it's the Senate that actually appoints them. It's fairly recent history for the process to be so partisan and for the senate to vote on party lines rather than on the suitability of the candidate. Ruth Bader Ginsberg for instance was nominated by Clinton - so described as a 'democrat' or a 'Clinton pick' but was actually voted in almost unanimously (96-3) by the senate.
(lets also face the facts here - Trump himself didn't 'pick' any judges. He had no idea who these people were)
With that crew waiting in the wings it's entirely possible things will get worse, not better when he goes.
Yip. It’s the same thing as with Putin… be careful what you wish for. It’s quite a leap to presume that what follows will be any better.
and now hes higlighting that his tariffs are an inflationary tax
You don’t have to be an economist to work out that a 10% tariff just means the price of everything goes up by 10%. Trump has just effectively slapped an additional 10% tax on everything. That’s never going to be popular anywhere, but in the US it’s tantamount to heresy
You don’t have to be an economist to work out that a 10% tariff just means the price of everything goes up by 10%.
Not always it seems! For example, some companies have made up the shortfall by increasing prices a little globally, rather than alot locally. Others have eaten part of the tarrif to a greater and lesser extent. Lots of the FT columists have been suprised that inflation hasnt really gone up all thaaaaat much. While the evidence is very much that tariffs are inflationary, how much and how quickly is murky. The people predicting that the sky would fall in instantly now have acorns on their faces.
The stat that I read (Larry Elliot in the Guardian IIRC) was that 95% of the cost of Trumps tariffs have been passed directly on to American consumers.
its going to be interesting to paint it as an economic miracle if everyone now wants their money back, which they clearly do.
He’s a moron! And even the willfully blind republicans in congress are now seeing that
The people predicting that the sky would fall in instantly now have acorns on their faces.
Well yes but, there's probably a word for this and I don't know what it is.
People predicted that brexit would be a disaster, it wasn't as bad as predicted because Mark Carney started printing money. People predicted that the Millennium Bug would be a disaster, it was a non-event because a lot of people worked bloody hard to make it a non-event.
It's extremely myopic to look back on mitigated disasters and conclude "I don't know what all the fuss was about."
He’s a moron! And even the willfully blind republicans in congress are now seeing that
He's not just a moron, and he's not just demented. He's a very unpleasant small man. How else can you describe the way he mocked a disabled journalist, mocks Biden's cancer diagnosis, his misogyny as expressed in his association with Epstein, his "pussy grabbing" comments, his treatment of female journalists. It's really a mystery to me how there are so many people in the US who can see this and say "yep, he's the guy for me".
So, how do companies and consumers that paid these tariffs get their money back…?
trump did TACO on a lot of his headline tariffs, especially on steel and chips that would've really hurt American consumers
but American GDP has done worse than expected while inflation is higher than expected - as everyone elses prices are dropping, it looks like the inflationary effects of tariffs are being drawn out over a longer period
Newsom et al saying every American family is owed $1700 is underlining that trump was lying when he said other countries would pay tariffs, that will be infuriating him
People predicted that brexit would be a disaster
Just the sizable chunk of our GDP that we sacrificed on the alter of it would prove that to be the case, before you even get into any of the rest of it.
But, you know... sovrinty
So, how do companies and consumers that paid these tariffs get their money back…?
They go after the administration, if they don't go bust first of course
"The court did not say how the government should refund the illegal tariffs, worth an estimated $175 billion. When asked about refunds, Trump said at a press conference that "we'll end up being in court for the next five years.""
"The court ruled in December that it had the power to reopen the final tariff determinations and order the government to pay refunds with interest -- an authority the Trump administration said in court it would not challenge. That decision removed potential legal complications to refunds, according to trade experts.
WHAT WILL IMPORTERS HAVE TO DO TO GET A REFUND?
Each importer might have to sue in the Court of International Trade to get a refund, and it is not clear that a class action could be formed to cover the broad range of companies that paid tariffs, legal experts said. Importers have two years to sue to claim a refund, under U.S. trade law."
Can't see it reported anywhere else, but NY Times reporting that ICE were involved in the fatal shooting of another American woman last year, which had been kept quiet
Of course it was a disaster, but if you'll all read the second half of the sentence it wasn't as bad as predicted because people tried to minimise the impact. Leading to accusations of scaremongering from the gammonista.
In any case, it was just an example, I didn't want to derail the thread. Trump, then?
So he’s just re-imposed his ‘beautiful’ tariffs in another guise
Government policy literally made up on the hoof, fueled purely by spite.
What a time to be alive
So, how do companies and consumers that paid these tariffs get their money back…?
It's OK, Howard Nutlick & Co have (at least some of) it covered.. nothing to see here. #corruption
So he’s just re-imposed his ‘beautiful’ tariffs in another guise
Pretty much - sounds like he can impose temporary tariffs for 150 days.. but there may be nothing to stop him stopping them and then reimposing them on a rolling basis.
UPDATE : The orange turd has just upped the global tariffs to 15%
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8r1e327z46o
hes bumped it up to 15% !! coz everyone is laughing at him

Except the minor protective impact of the mitigation is kind of running out and now it’s all going to get worse. We have only just seen the tip of the shitshow iceberg
Denmark's Joint Arctic Command has evacuated a US submariner from the seas off Greenland to hospital following a medical emergency.
Hours later President Trump announced that he'd sent a US hospital ship to Greenland. They have a hospital at Nuuk and more serious cases are airlifted to Denmark,
"Working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are going to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick, and not being taken care of there. It’s on the way!!!" Trump said. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/trump-hospital-ship-greenland-9.7101380
No-one seems to have any clue who these "many people who are sick, and not being taken care of" are and just what it has to do with "the fantastic Governor of Louisiana", apart from his being a special envoy to Greenland.
Neither the WH, the War Dept nor Landry's office have commented
The Observer is reporting the latest polling shows over two thirds of Americans disagree with Trumps tariffs and blame them for the increase in prices.
So his pig-headed insistence on pursuing them further, at all costs, is not just stupid (no surprises there) but completely self-defeating. Apparently a lot of Republicans are privately very worried about this, with the mid-term elections approaching, but none of them will come out and say so publicly for fear of invoking the wrath of the Mad King
Hours later President Trump announced that he'd sent a US hospital ship to Greenland.
Dementia-Don doing what he does best ..
Apparently there are only 2 US hospital ships .. and both are out of service in dock.
Another own goal by him. When US citizens will be struggling to pay increased health insurance he makes up some nonsense about sending free health care to Greenland .. who already have access to free health care.
Yep - Dementia-Don is in his own little world 😆
Apparently a lot of Republicans are privately very worried about this, with the mid-term elections approaching, but none of them will come out and say so publicly for fear of invoking the wrath of the Mad King
The problem republicans have is however broadly unpopular trump is hardcore trump voters still make up a portion of republican votes. So candidates can expect to lose votes across the spectrum of GOP voters because they are tarred with the same brush as Trump, but all speaking about against him does is lose you even more votes from those who are still pro-trump. Two thirds may well be against Trump's Tarrifs but one third is still a large portion of potential republican votes. Not enough to win an election with, but too many to hope to win an election without.
I obviously feel very sad about this. Thoughts and prayers.
Apparently there are only 2 US hospital ships .. and both are out of service in dock.
For a man who likes to take legal action against anyone and everyone at the drop of a hat, he best get ready for a legal shitstorm.
1800 lawsuits have been taken out already, all big US corporates, no doubt with the most expensive legal teams money can buy, who want all the money back that has been paid in tariffs. There will be a lot more to come, I’m sure. It amounts to $175 billion, apparently.
So what does he do? Doubles down and keeps digging!
1800 lawsuits have been taken out already, all big US corporates, no doubt with the most expensive legal teams money can buy, who want all the money back that has been paid in tariffs.
Wouldn't it be great if they sued Trump personally; after all, he was the one who implemented the illegal tariffs.
This sums up the American Administration's arrogance, ignorance and hubris.
"Trump curious why Iran has not 'capitulated', US envoy Witkoff says".

So what does he do? Doubles down and keeps digging!
He can dig a 3ft by 7ft by 6ft hole and I’ll volunteer to place him in it
The irony of him wanting to send hospital ship to help as they have no care.
And then danish navy have to evacuate us submarine crew to Nuuk hospital.
Some Danish FB guy has said that Denmark is sending a hospital ship to Washington staffed entirely with mental health teams, which would be more helpful.
this stable genius is about to invade start a war with Iran

What a time for the USA to go to war
They arent going to war. They are just going to engage in a special military operation.
Given it was apparently fake news to suggest the previous round of bombings hadnt completely stopped the Iranians nuclear programme his supporters are going to need to load in the new punchcards to explain why a further round is needed.

TLDL; the tarrifs will probably be back, there's less legally dubious options that'll likely stick.

This time the talk seems pretty openly about supporting the Iranian people to overthrow the regime.
Anyway, further to the hushed up ICE shooting in Texas reported by the NY Times a few days back, they are now reporting the only witness has been killed in a car crash. I was almost tempted to click and buy a subscription to get the full details.
AP link for you on that: Witness in Texas immigration shooting case dies in car crash | AP News
Apparently sewage problems on one of the carriers is causing concerns of it compromising operational capabilities .. reports of low morale on board about missing leave etc.
General Dan Caine has raised concern of the lack of munition availability and supply to the strike groups. The risk here is that by attacking Iran the USA demonstrate themselves to be less than elite as Russia did when they attacked Ukraine .. modern warfare of cheap plentiful drones could cause havoc with stationary targets at sea. I`m pretty sure Iran will be able to saturate the US defences quite quickly.
Trump had success against a minnow like Venezuela, but like a typical bully, Trump probably got an overinflated ego about now and may get punched pretty hard and humbled by the far more aggressive and capable Iran. Sure Iran cant win - but they only need to inflict casualties on US to get the US audience asking why.

As worked so successfully in Libya. Everything's great there now. I mean it's never in the news and no news is good news. Yes?
modern warfare of cheap plentiful drones could cause havoc with stationary targets at sea. I`m pretty sure Iran will be able to saturate the US defences quite quickly.
The ships aren't stationary, as y'know, that's the point of having a movable airfield. I'm not at all certain that Iran can cause anything other than nuisance value TBH

Reported by that famously left-wing rag The Wall Street Journal.

They are all over the place. I think part of the issue, is at least when it comes to special military operations, they need to pretend some accordance with the law which requires some vague claim about a current threat. Bit hard to do that when you have announced you destroyed their ability to threaten you last time round.
The ship’s sewage system is failing, requiring maintenance calls every single day and acid flushes costing $400,000 each.
Crumbs - and you thought your visit from Pimlico Plumbers was extortionate !!
Nice to see Corporate America already taking action to sue the Trump government after the judgement on tariffs by the supreme court - even the people who voted for him within these corporations will give no quarter when it comes to recovering dollars spent on tariffs.

This is possibly someone in the chain of command, whether WH or military, attempting to back away from something that's destined to be the next big conflict, which doesn't have a clear authorisation of military force. Removing the Supreme Leader, as they did in Venezuela, doesn't seem to be an option.
modern warfare of cheap plentiful drones could cause havoc with stationary targets at sea. I`m pretty sure Iran will be able to saturate the US defences quite quickly.
These will sting more
The deal for the Chinese‑made CM‑302 missiles is near completion, though no delivery date has been agreed, the people said. The supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 kilometres and are designed to evade shipborne defences by flying low and fast. Their deployment would significantly enhance Iran’s strike capabilities and pose a threat to U.S. naval forces in the region, two weapons experts said. https://www.reuters.com/world/china/iran-nears-deal-buy-supersonic-anti-ship-missiles-china-2026-02-24/

He's painted himself into a corner over this. His declaration of Iran losing its nuclear capability in June, but now they're now a week from having a bomb are obviously contradictory and he's set a generation of sailors up to consider leaving the USN at the earliest opportunity.
Imposed regime change rarely works out well, e.g. Chile, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc. https://thehill.com/opinion/international/5544281-us-regime-change-blowback/

Ok, stationary was a bad description. However, something that big only able to move 30mph in that environment isn't going to be hard to find.
Russia's black sea fleet had a rough time from a less prepared country with next to no navy.
I expect lots of better informed people will be persuading Trump to de-escalate about now.

Hate to break it to you but half the Canadian team are right wing too particularly those from Alberta. The NHL is the most "Conservative" of the big 4 sports leagues in NA and it's not even close.
Scare quotes as that word is now meaningless, unless it's just Conserving wealth for the top 0.001%.

sure, everyone knows where they are, but finding it is pretty easy, hitting it is another, and damaging it in any way is entirely a different thing again. The US Navy tried it with one of their own carriers. They weren't trying to sink it, but just see what kind of damage they can withstand, so that they could incorporate that knowledge into newer ships. Answer: A huge amount. they literally set off explosives to see what would happen, after 4 weeks, they had to scuttle it. You can read about it here
