I don't think it's the ballroom comments... they've been appearing (and mocked) everywhere. It was the suggestion that the killer was "one of them", ie challenging the fake news that the government are SUCCESSFULLY making the overriding narrative... that this was a killing by and for "the left".
You're right he did mention that. To me the killer doesn't really seem to fit neatly into either a left or right wing box, but both left and right are keen to paint him as one of the other. He definitely isn't the lefty antifa he was made out to be before anyone knew who he was though.
@fingerbang ... something to back up your point, from back in July...

Trump is openly going after more late night hosts and their shows now. Shades of Putin again. Echo the propaganda of the leader, or lose your platform to say anything.
Nick Clegg has said the AI investment/deal is a bad deal for the UK. Adding that the UK is just getting the `sloppy seconds` off silicon valley. Clegg was in a pretty good position to have a good opinion on it.
The UK appears to be desperate to cozy up to the USA; a very very bad decision I feel with Trump isolating and seemingly destroying USAs reputation worse each day.

While I appreciate the information from clegg, I just can't take it from that little weasel. He helped **** the country and then went to work for meta, what next palantir?
50 1\2 state, storage for US mega or MAGA servers
US announces 150bn of investment - if our government decided perform this investment itself people would shit them over inflationary wreckless spending.
There is very little to zero benefit for the UK, in fact this is will just shove us even further up trumps flaccid arse
You just have to look at where/who the investment is coming from to realise this country is handing over it's dinner money to the school bully in the hope we don't get a kicking after school
Pivoting further towards the USA, and away from our neighbours, was the "will of the people". The third option of "we don't need anyone else" is just a fantasy.
My first thought on those data centers was why us, why not build them in Germany or France - easy pickings
Trump is openly going after more late night hosts and their shows now. Shades of Putin again. Echo the propaganda of the leader, or lose your platform to say anything.
Putin has clearly told him to watch out for those tv comedians, they can cause you trouble down the road.
James o Brien wasn't fawning over Trump. Have you ever listened to him!? He was taking the p as LBC had decided to cover the Trump visit in exhaustive detail and the arrival at Windsor fell on his watch so he had to give a commentary but obviously took the p without overstepping the mark. It was hilarious
Makes sense now! Missed the first part of his show so just got the fauning.
How are we powering these new data centres ? Trump doesn't like renewables, maybe that's a reason - save on infrastructure in the US.
The tech companies need computing power and storage on all continents for latency reasons... even if they wanted to they can't only site them in the USA if they want to keep and maintain their lead with users worldwide. It's not really about avoiding power generation/distribution issues back home.
I watched that Jimmy Kimmel segment on YouTube and it didn't seem at all controversial
I heard a Republican cheerleader earlier, describe what he said as ‘hate speech’.
Ignoring the fact that it most certainly wasn’t, I thought these freedom of speech warriors were against using that as a definition for anything, even encouraging people to set fire to buildings with people inside? 🤷♂️
I lasted a couple of minutes listening to Starmers chequers speech, with every word uttered he’s climbing further up the ring piece of the special relationship
I’m listening to it but appear to have cringed myself inside out
Trump: "we'll have sane regulations" that companies "can work around".
I’m listening to it but appear to have cringed myself inside out
I can’t afford to watch it as I’d attempt to punch my fist through the iMac screen and drag trump out to douse him in bug spray
Presumably the Trump administration will go after YouTube next, and try and force them to remove critical channels, whilst proclaiming their love of free speech.
Well TikTok looks like it's going to be a state controlled version in the US. Expect lots of fun short videos, as long as they show the 'right' content.
TBH, it really needs re-emphasising that all this talk of disagreeing with each others politics but still being all matey matey with people on the "other team" has all gone out of the window over the last few years.
Because it's no longer about politics, it's pivoted to morals.
We've gone from disagreeing about what tax rates should be and how education, the arts and the armed forced should be funded to arguing about who should be allowed to exist and go about their lives in peace without being black bagged to a Guatemalan prison.
It's not really about avoiding power generation/distribution issues back home.
There is already issues with locations of data centres in the USA, due to water & power costs/availability, so not surprising they want to offshore as well as the reasons you give.

Can you imagine being Trumps speech writer? You work through the night pulling together a well researched, eloquent and decent speech. Then you hand it over to POTUS. He stand up at the lectern, starts reading it, lasts about 15 seconds then starts 'embellishing' it with his thoughts, his lies, his incoherent ramblings.
Absolute car crash.
Is somebody going to ask him to what these 7 wars are that he keeps claiming to have stopped?
I guess not, probably because the press still want to be invited to his government's press releases or, in the worst case, want their journalists to avoid death threats from followers of the MAGA cult.
It's breathtaking just how quickly they are moving, with barely a whimper from the political 'opposition'.
Several Democrats are loudly calling it out, and have been tearing new arses off Trumps minions in Senate hearings. I think the lack of a party "leader" until the actual Presidential race, together with Trumps control of so much media, means they are drowned out. But even Fox News presenters are visibly wincing at some of the shit.
Agree that the data centres are not the success they are being portrayed as, for all the points raised before.
Because it's no longer about politics, it's pivoted to morals.
And it will take leaders with morals to start to turn that tide. And big business tends not to fund politicians with morals.
Ta Nehisi Coates has some words about the Kirk affair. Worth reading.

Superficially yes, but in reality it is all about tax rates and spending, who benefits from that and the wealth distribution it creates, it is all about the money flowing to the few and those few then using their pocket change to further embed their power in politics.
I keep seeing "hypernormalization" mentioned over the past week or so, but I think the point is missed that it is the current extreme financial inequality we live in that has been normalised, an extreme financial system of inflated assets and rapidly diminishing standards of living for the majority, an acceptance of selling the policies that caused the problems as the solutions to the problems and taking them even further and calling that the new normal, taking 14 years of austerity and now making that as the baseline and pretending that a tiny little bit less* austerity is now a great victory.
*although given rather optimistic inflation predictions and where they actually seem to be going that will probably turn out to be more rather than less austerity by the end of this parliament
On the plus side, I have now realised that Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon are two different people.
8 months in and it already looks like some sort of totalitarian nightmare
Just another 40 to go.

Dutch hit the nail on the head
When Ted Cruz is on the right side of the debate, it's time to rethink
He did say that he's, "thrilled that Jimmey Kimmel got fired", so he's only really got one toe on the right side of the debate so far. But it is interesting to see that he might still have a vertebra left in his simpering carcass
Have any of you heard of the Nelk Boys?
a Canadian–American YouTube channel and entertainment company. Known for their prank videos, vlogs, and their brand Full Send Entertainment... (wikipedia)
Guess who they interviewed? Just everyone's favourite genocidal dictator OMG! SICK*!
(*sick means good, thats what the kids say these days isn't it?) Comments to their video are not favourable.
Not quite what I associate the term "full send" with.
Anyway, not sure if I've been sent down a left-wing conspiracy rabbit hole, what are your views on Chris Hedges and Max Blumenthal, if you're familiar with them? Source.
Did you intentionally steal Jimmy Kimmels joke?
Well its not like he's using them at the moment 🙂
He's mixed up "Armenia" and "Albania" several times recently. He would slate Joe Biden on SM for days about similar gaffes
Maybe that's why he's solved so many wars; Azerbaijan v Armenia and Azerbaijan v Albania to name but two

Trump called Cruz's wife ugly and said his father was involved in murdering JFK. Cruz then went on to endorse Trump and serve in his administration. Spineless is an understatement.
Well, on the bright side, Armenia and Cambodia seem to have resolved their differences.

**** trump and his entire administration, if wishes/thoughts/prayers came true then I’d be standing atop and pissing on a pile of U.S. administration corpses
Seen a few comments that this is the equivalent of the Watergate Tapes, but suspect it won't sway the GOP.

Paracetamol causes autism.... great, Donald Trump and RFK jr unleash another Dr Wakefield into the world.... absolute bellends...
Paracetamol causes autism
Cool - that of course means Measles jabs are back in the 'good science' column. Right?
Would be great if this was widely reported as 'all clear for MMR jab' without mentioning the paracetamol nonsense.
Slightly confused regarding the official anti vax stance - drug companies are hugely rich & one would assume influencial in the states.
Therefore I would've thought the govt would be tied up in making them richer.
But they seem to be against this.
Compared to gun manufacturers who have way too much influcence & equally profitable, who's product kills many people every day, but they are very much in favour of them.
Maybe they either can't bribe their way in, or are just finding out that the 2nd Amendment is an easier sell. I mean, someone has to be the bad guy and you can't blame everything on reneweable energy. Oil and gas are "in", guns are untouchable, immigrants are "out", ok, many bad guys...
I reckon there's more evidence linking the use of "bigly tangerine" fake tan to narcissism than they will ever find between paracetamol and autism. But I guess they'll make sure that there's no funding for studies to see if this has any effect, and will probably ban the diagnosis of autism in the US just to be sure the rates go down
I love how this big announcement on paracetamol is based on research carried out by those leftie scoundrels at harvard..
I have no idea if there is a link, but either way, I hate this man with an absolute passion
About now - outside of the MAGA morons in USA, and Reform retards in UK, everybody else knows that Trump is unable to speak a word of truth. So no matter what he says people are not going to believe him ... the concern of course is that he may actually say something worth listening to that is true ... its very hard to imagine, but it could hypothetically happen.
That's actually true. My first instinct about this paracetamol business was ' more bullsxxxx'. It's like the boy who cried wolf..

A bit a anti-paracetamol propaganda won't do any harm. A family member put themselves in hospital with a low level overdose thinking another couple of tablets would be OK - one of the 10s of thousands that put themselves in NHS hospitals each year with parcetamol poisonning. It's the drug that has (or had because I can't be arsed to check recent figures) the highest mortality from overdose. The Harvard research cautiously suggests a link between autism and the mother taking paracetamol, pregnant women avoiding the drug seems a very good idea till more is known. Paracetamol poissoning is the biggest cause by far of liver failure and the need for transplant. That it is still an over-the-counter drug beggars belief. The publicity being given by Trump seems a good thing to me.

...
The publicity being given by Trump seems a good thing to me.
Remarkably, the first bit seems to be true. https://www.ukri.org/news/new-saliva-test-can-rapidly-identify-paracetamol-overdose/
The second bit - Trumpian propaganda is never a good thing. It sheds more heat than light, to put it mildly
There are litterly instructions on the packet, 'dont take more than x every x hours' unless advised by a doctor.
I've not looked recently but I'll bet there's something about pregnancy in the pamphlet that's included in every box - the one that no one reads.
Natural selection in progess I guess.
A bit a anti-paracetamol propaganda won't do any harm
The publicity being given by Trump seems a good thing to me.
Trump isn't publicizing the harms of accidental overdose, it sounds like he's going to say that paracetamol taken during pregnancy causes autism. So it will have zero effect on accidental overdoses and potentially a massive negative effect in other areas. For example it might lead pregnant women to take other painkillers that have been shown to be unsafe during pregnancy.
The Harvard research cautiously suggests a link between autism and the mother taking paracetamol, pregnant women avoiding the drug seems a very good idea till more is known
More is known. A Swedish study last year found no link between paracetamol and autism and suggested that studies which suggested a link had failed to take account of confounding factors such as family history of known autism risk factors.
The potential harms of this sort of ignorant, haphazard public health messaging are hard to predict but even if a study finally refutes any link between paracetamol and autism, Trump's words will still be out there, suspicion will remain and the harm will continue. Let's not forget how Andrew Wakefield's long since debunked study continues to influence antivaxxers.
Highly selective quoting there, spin, the content is entirely missing, and you've added some wild speculation. As we're wildly speculating it might equally lead to pregnant women thinking more about what they injest during pregnacy. For mine and Madame's generation who had side stepped thalidomide more by luck than anything else, taking anything at all during conception and pregnancy was a no no. I've just asked Madame and the only non food stuff was follic acid.
I see you've doubled down
Trump's words will still be out there, suspicion will remain and the harm will continue.
So I'll add - what harm to reducing paracetamol consumption? I really fail to see what harm there is to making it a prescrition only drug.
And what problem with suspicion? I think a degree of suspicion that's high enough to make people read up all the potential side effects and dangers of drugs is a good thing. They can stick horrible pics and mesages on fag packets, a warning such as "exceeding the maximum recommended dose may result in liver failure and death, consult your doctor before taking during pregnacy" seems appropriate on something you can buy over the counter.
Highly selective quoting there, spin, the content is entirely missing,
I quoted the parts of your comment I was replying to directly. I'm afraid I don't see anything in the overall context to suggest I've misunderstood those points or misrepresented them.
what harm to reducing paracetamol consumption?
Sticking to the issue in hand, some other painkillers have well understood negative effects during pregnancy. If pregnant women are afraid to take paracetamol because of the huge publicity Trump's words will generate then they may take those other drugs instead. Public health messaging is a complex, nuanced business and shouldn't be in the hands of an ignorant clown like Trump.
Whether paracetamol should be prescription only is a different issue.
And what problem with suspicion? I think a degree of suspicion that's high enough to make people read up all the potential side effects and dangers of drugs is a good thing.
Taking the time to understand the drugs you take is indeed a good thing. What I'm talking about is the sort of unfounded suspicion that reverberates through the years regardless of how much effort is put into debunking it. That's why I offered Wakefield as an example. His work was utter bollocks but to this day people are saying vaccines cause autism. I fear the same may happen around this.
you've added some wild speculation.
Such as?
The Harvard research cautiously suggests a link between autism and the mother taking paracetamol, pregnant women avoiding the drug seems a very good idea till more is known.
Paracetamol is one of the only painkillers that can be taken during pregnancy. But hey f*** those guys. [/Sarcasm]
A couple of links for further reading on Autism/RFK if interested..
That's a depressing read but sadly there isn't much about the current situation in the States that isn't depressing.
So it will have zero effect on accidental overdoses and potentially a massive negative effect in other areas. For example it might lead pregnant women to take other painkillers that have been shown to be unsafe during pregnancy
So you think this is wild speculation? It's one of the many points I took away from reading the piece below. Relevant experts seem to be concerned that pregnant women would stop taking paracetamol if Trump says it causes autism and seek other medications to treat their pain.
It's the drug that has (or had because I can't be arsed to check recent figures) the highest mortality from overdose.
Pretty much everyone has it in their house, it can be bought easily in shops, it’s often used for pain relief during PMT and guess who often suffers awful mood swings in PMT.
Autism is genetic.
Pretty much everyone has it in their house, it can be bought easily in shops, it’s often used for pain relief during PMT and guess who often suffers awful mood swings in PMT.
One of the articles linked above suggests that RFK Jr has some sort of physical disgust for autistic people but this comment makes me start to think that there might be a misogynistic element to it. After all, if it's paracetamol that causes autism then it's the mother's fault for taking it and denying it to pregnant women is another piece of control over women.
I will freely admit that I am now speculating wildly...
Google suggests UK 250-300 deaths and 100,000 hospitalisations. Majority of death deliberate actions.
Scotland alone has 1000+ drugs misuse deaths.
It might just as easily raise awareness that other painkillers are to be avoided too, spin. Another check with Madame tells me that Aspirin wasn't one of the thins she was told to avoid during pregnancy, but some cheeses were.
At present there's a lack of information, my wild speculation is that Trump will inspire heath professionals to change that. Just because a professional wildly speculates about the behaviour of women (or men for that matter) it doesn't mean it's not wild speculation. Better infrom people and credit them with the intelligence to make the right choices.
Check the stats on how many women drink and smoke during pregnancy, it strikes me that the main message needs to be quit drink, smokes and non-prescription drugs during pregnancy.
Check the stats on how many women drink and smoke during pregnancy, it strikes me that the main message needs to be quit drink, smokes and non-prescription drugs during pregnancy.
That has been the message for decades.
At present there's a lack of information, my wild speculation is that Trump will inspire heath professionals to change that.Just because a professional wildly speculates about the behaviour of women (or men for that matter) it doesn't mean it's not wild speculation.
So you hope for Trump and RFK's semi coherent ramblings to bring about positive change but experienced health professionals from relevant fields are speculating wildly when they clearly and calmly express concerns over this?
Edit: here's a quote from a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology who contributed to the article I linked. If you think this sounds like wild speculation you need to recalibrate your speculatometer:
"Undue focus on paracetamol would risk preventing families from using one of the safest medications to use in pregnancy when needed.”
Now check the percentage of women smoking and drinking during pregnancy, Drac. It seems to me that there's a disconnect between the messages and the consequences for the child in people's heads. The messages need to be more blunt. "Paracetmol might lead to autism" whether true or not is nice and succinct compared with don't drink or smoke because it's bad - which eveyone knows but most people seem happy to ignore in the case of drink and many even when pregnant.
You are better placed than most to evaluate the consequences given your medical background, but can you list the consequences of smoking, drinking, taking aspirin or paracetamol for the mother and baby without using Google?
