Having said that, the stupidity of the public never ceases to amaze me.
And have access to a Facebook feed, who've only recently started to ban, and take down Q-anon sites and posts
On the QAnon thing
a friend posted in our Uni whatsapp group that its literally destroyed his marriage
His wife has become a fully signed up believer, he reckons its got into her via the 'your kids arent safe from paedos' angle
so any time he questions it she throws back 'why is he not worried about the kids?'
she believes covid is a hoax to damage trump & refuses to take any precautions
she refuses to watch TV
Their kids have missed school, she wont let them or my mate watch films or TV that star paedos outed by Qanaon, she is obsessively stockpiling as she thinks trump will lose & there will be a race war (they live near nottingham) she actually thinks trump is the saviour fighting the satanic baby eaters
She has an IT degree, works for the police - is a manager in their GIS data handling, my mate also works in a similar role & colleagues are warning him shes losing it
Its hard to get my head around as she always seemed such a chilled & normal person
@kimbers . Jesus
I wonder if Qanon calculated that they could get extra mileage if they used Trump to give it traction I e they knew that the stupid idiot could never denounce or disavow anything that massages his ego or panders to his delusion that he's special. Aside from that, is it not just Russian?
That is truly scary kimbers.

I think it is probably Russian in origin and it's more designed to get Trump re-elected/generally sow fear, uncertainty and division in the west. And it's working a treat.
On blindboy's podcast he makes the point that the people behind QAnon are using the techniques of Scientology and episodic TV drama to get people hooked. They tease new information and use cliffhangers and people are scared that if Trump doesn't get re-elected it will all be over and they never get to find out what happens.
He's also talked before about the way Trump's whole world/campaign operates is pretty much exactly like the 'kayfabe' in WWE - blurring the lines between reality and scripted 'reality'.
my mates wife is also boycotting Heinz, ive no idea what the qanon rationale for that is
so any time he questions it she throws back ‘why is he not worried about the kids?’
she believes covid is a hoax to damage trump & refuses to take any precautions
No Covid precautions, eh? "So why are you not worried about the kids." But I'm aware of the futility of trying to dispute this nonsense with logic.
In all seriousness though, Facebook and Twitter are demonstrably making our lives worse.
as she thinks trump will lose & there will be a race war (they live near nottingham
Jeez, I kind of assumed they must live in the States - no wonder Ilkeston Tesco was low on toilet rolls!
I attended a big (civil service) Black History Month/BLM event on Teams last week. The moderator was reading through the comments in the chat bar in the last few minutes and got halfway through one before realising it was descending into a QAnon inspired rant. Bizarre - is making a dick of yourself on an internal Teams event a discipline issue, free speech issue, or a staff welfare issue?
In all seriousness though, Facebook and Twitter are demonstrably making our lives worse.
This. Their algorithms have encouraging division baked into them.
Kimbers - it sounds more like your friend's wife has some health issues - and is hanging them on the QAnon thing.
On the street survey - I was at a pub quiz a few weeks ago and the question was asked "which group did Facebook (or was it twitter - not important) ban their posts this week?"
Nobody got the answer right except me - QAnon.
Makes you think, doesn't it.
Kimbers – it sounds more like your friend’s wife has some health issues – and is hanging them on the QAnon thing.
yeaH I think so, having a chat with my mate tomorrow
hes kept all this quiet, tho looking back there have been a few weird facebook posts a while back, but she then deleted her account when another friend called her on it
I wonder if Qanon calculated
I read somewhere (ill try to dig it out) by some-one well versed in the Alt-right world that the belief is Q-Anon was most probably a stunt made up and perhaps (but perhaps not) controlled by one of the owners of 4-Chan who was always desperate to drive money and users to the channel, it was certainly promoted by their moderators. Realising it's now beyond their control and trapped by it..If they reveal who they are, not only will they in all likelihood not be believed, but that their lives may be in actual danger, so on it rumbles

Of course they do. Ranking members of the FBI are obviously instrumental in keeping the paedos out of jail.

I actually think there's a much bigger problem here. People are so fed up with their lives that they're willing to indulge in this fantasy. That way, they get to be a member of a 'woke' club where they can see themselves as something other than an unfortunate 99%er. Instead of, you know, helping people live better lives, the GOP strategists are stoking the fire. It's naive to think that all these people are simply morons and disregard them, they're being manipulated by people who have realised this is a path to power.

Trump's posted his version of the 60 Minutes video on FB now. I've dealt with some defensive folks over the years, but blimey he takes the biscuit. Weird interview format though. Never watched it, but guess it aims to be like a conversation - which Trump doesn't really do. Hard to spot any magnificent brilliance.
Interested to see the broadcast version now.

The podcast linked below interviews the guy who built the chatroom/message board and he gives his theory in how Qanon appeared and then developed. TL;DR bloke created it to get attention, had the login hijacked and then couldn't control his snowballing monster. Very interesting and scary how many people are taken in by such obvious nonsense.

Emma Barnett being absolutely merciless with Michael Cohen on newsnight is great fun!
Michael self proclaimed " high ranking member of a cult" Cohen currently on house arrest
He was expecting to be welcomed and entertained by the 'liberal' media after he flipped on Donald but Barnet went to town on him; open contempt and disgust
That was entertaining
Trump's pulling the same stunt as 2016 when he invited those Bill Clinton accusers to the debate. This time he's turning up with Hunter's business partner.
kimbers, that's really upsetting to read about your friends wife.
Hopefully she can be pulled back from the precipice for her and the whole families sake. Awful stuff.
The simplest way for Trump to win would be to win Pennsylvania and all the states below it in this list, while the simplest way for Biden to win would be to win Pennsylvania and all the states above it (i.e. Pennsylvania is the tipping point). So Trump needs a pretty solid swing in his favor across multiple states to just squeak out a bare win, whereas Biden just needs these polls to be in the ballpark in some states to win comfortably. Trump absolutely has to win both Florida and Pennsylvania to have a realistic chance, whereas Biden is pretty much guaranteed to win if he takes one of those two states.

We're now 5 minutes in and no shouting or interruptions - so far.
Watching the debate now and trump has managed to lie in the first 2 seconds of his response to the first question asked.
He’s going bigly with the waving hands tonight.
I can’t watch him speak for more than about 30 seconds without wanting to throw things at the TV
Well that was quite a comedown from the first debate. Trump performed much better and generally behaved himself but still got plenty of personal digs in. Biden was OK but didn't seem as fluent or asseertive as he was in the first. Moderator really controlled the debate really well. Overall a draw in my opinion, so hopefully it won't adversely affect the polls showing Biden's lead.

I haven't watched any of them, but the general consensus from the first one seemed to be that the Tangarine Shitgibbon display only appealed to his core voters, but drove moderates away from him. Apparently his advisors were trying to tell him to tone it down on the theory that constantly interrupting Biden made it all about Trump's rudeness instead of Biden's fitness for office. Problem for Trump is that he needed a huge win in this debate to turn the race around. A draw just cements Biden's lead.
Missed the debate but watched the second part of The Trump Show last night. How deep in your own echo chamber must you be to not see that shit show and chaos for what it is. The guy from Homeland security was a worrying watch
did donny bone spurs tell more jokes ?
When was the FLOTUS last seen?
I actually wish Borat had left it a bit later cos I reckon Giuliani was about to grab her or at least do something really inappropriate. The little pat on her lower back/top of her ass was pretty sleazy
When was the FLOTUS last seen?
She was spotted being shoved off stage by her turd of a husband last night. I'm sure she's tucked up in bed reading her pre-nup as we speak.

I guess you have to weigh up ethically what you subject an actress to as part of her job. Having to watch Ghouliani's chub emerging like something out of Alien or getting properly groped is probably above and beyond normal professional expectations and could be a bit traumatising!
This really brings Jared kushner to life:

Yes, there was probably a team of production staff watching that and shouting into SBCs earpiece "that's enough we've got him, go now!"
I actually wish Borat had left it a bit later cos I reckon Giuliani was about to grab her or at least do something really inappropriate.
If Cohen was a serious documentarian, he should have let it keep rolling as long as the interviewer is comfortable with what's happening and isn't in danger. Problem is, he's not, he's a comedian who works very close to the line between what's acceptable and what's not. I think guys like Giuliani are fair game, they're public figures and sleazy as hell. The people in the first movie that had him for dinner, where he came back with a bag of shit actually seemed really decent to me and I don't think they deserved to be treated like that.
Anyway, Giuliani did enough to suggest that he had very inappropriate intentions. If they'd let the camera keep rolling, he might have actually redeemed himself so that was a good spot to stop. If they'd let it keep rolling and cut it, it would have allowed Giuliani to claim (reasonably) that it had been deceptively edited.
Giuliani and guys like him deserve what they get, but I'm a bit ambivalent about Cohen and his methods sometimes.
Interviewed on GMA this morning. Quite interesting, he went on to say the point was to highlight division, but underneath many of the people were good people. Said he actually got on with the QAnon guys for example. How does he film this stuff? I understand the hit on Guliani, but much of it is just filmed 🤔

Borat defends Giuliani...
“I here to defend America's mayor Rudolph Giuliani,” Borat says. “What was an innocent sexy time encounter with a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter has been turned into something disgusting by fake news media."
He adds, "I warn you, anyone else tries this and Rudolph will not hesitate to reach into his legal briefs and whip out his subpoenas."

As much as I hate him, looking at the short clip of him lying back on the bed it does look like he’s tucking his shirt in
WHAT?!?!?! In no world whatsoever does it look like he was tucking his shirt in!!!!
It looks like he laid back, then stuck his hand down his trousers to grab his cock. Mainly because.....he laid back, then stuck his hand down his trousers to grab his cock.

Don't think that matters really - he was in a hotel with a young reporter, and had accepted an invite to a hotel room and was in the process of removing his mics lying on a bed.
Can't see how the 15 year-old bit applies also TBH - he wouldn't think somebody working as a reporter was 15 - or was he told that as part of the hit? Might have missed that bit.
How can he keep working after this?
How can he keep working after this?
He's part of team trump - rules and laws don't apply.
If it took Baron Cohen in women's underwear and a wig to make Giuliani realise he was being set up (by two actors posing as journalist/producer), how hard would highly trained foreign spies in another country have to work to fool him. It does look like he COULD have been tucking his shirt in but as a man who's spent the last couple of years claiming to be unearthing worldwide corruption that has been covered up by Trumps adversaries/ political opponents it doesn't really help his cause. Whether he's tucking his shirt in or not is missing the point and he doesn't even seem to realise that based on his tweets of late
God, I love those billboards.
Most enjoyable
Whether he’s tucking his shirt in or not is missing the point
Yeah precisely. He’s obviously being sleazy and awful, but the real ‘gotcha’ is how easily he was compromised.
Following the interview, he accepted an offer to go for a drink in the bedroom. I'll just reiterate that, the BEDROOM. With a little sort who'd been giving him the eyes and making him feel all important. He was in there quickcock like the randy rabbit he is. Tucking his shirt in my backside. He was lying back on the bed and checking the plumbing when Borat burst in.
What's interesting is it looked like business as usual for him. All in a day's work. As said above, if SBC can set him up this easily, god only knows what Vladimir has on him. Lots of preliminary sketches at the very least..

Yup, absolutely. if you were to see just him, on the bed, in isolation you might conceivably think he was tucking in his shirt. But in the context, absolutely not.
There's two responses I really like just now. One is "Oh but she was leading him on"- which is true, and is no defence at all in any case as far as "dirty old bastard". But as far as the "likely to be compromised and is in a key position of national security", it's the exact opposite of a defence, it makes it even worse. If he was just trying it on with young women, well that's really bad but still no worse than the president. But instead he's showed the world that he can be lead anywhere by his cock. And he has so little judgement that he genuinely seems to think that young women want to have sex with alcoholic anger-goblins, rather than that they're after something.
The other is "sharing this is illegal because it's revenge porn". As far as I can tell, this started out as a joke, but Trump's army of idiots and bots have picked it up. And it's brilliant, because it's an admission that it was a sexual act. Can't be revenge porn if it's innocent.
It's like that law in Boston (and probably other states) where it was made a crime to obstruct, damage or otherwise sabotage hazardous waste pipes, after a bunch of environmental activists kept filling them with cement. But it was never used, even once, because to use it you had to go out in public and say "See that pipe? It's full of hazardous waste. See all that stuff pouring into that river? Hazardous waste".
The timing of Borat bursting in is sort of interesting, because yes it'd be great to have like an extra 30 seconds of footage for disambiguation. But they're already waaaaaaaay past the point where most people would have pulled it- as soon as he touched her ass basically. I'm just impressed that they either had a pre-prepared intervention, or that he adlibbed it.
Fauci is on Andrew Marr this morning. 4am where he is, so he must be keen to have his say.
The Head of the Coronavirus Taskforce's team seems a bit depleted by positive tests this morning. Pence's chief of staff and four others, reportedly. He is going to be working overtime praying away the Covid.
I know this is jumping the gun and jinxing the result but......
Inauguration of a potential President Biden on Jan 20 2021 if he were to win AND Trump were to concede swiftly.
Has there been a defeated president in history as predisposed to generate vindictive carnage for 2.5 months on a nation (and specific states and voter groups) that rejected him? And has there been a time in history when the actions of a defeated presentent in their last days in office were quite so important to the wellbeing of the nation?
The method of executing democracy in the States is truly baffling.
Fauci was recorded on Friday unfortunately, so didn't cover the very latest Trump administration COVID denier stuff.
And has there been a time in history when the actions of a defeated presentent in their last days in office were quite so important to the wellbeing of the nation?
Quite. Although he's hardly doing much at the moment TBH, can't get much worse. I was thinking if the incoming administration might offer some coalition COVID response team as part of the handover.
News links the other day suggested Trump was doing something to leave a load of his appointees in permanent roles to undermine Biden if he wins. Can't recall where the link was to share.
I think he was making a lot of his personal temporary appointments into permanent government roles, when ordinarily they'd lose their position when he left office
I think he was making a lot of his personal temporary appointments into permanent government roles, when ordinarily they’d lose their position when he left office
Then he's going to alter the law which won't be a quick process but even if he does, won't Biden just re-alter it as President or just sack them as Trump has done with anyone who hasn't agreed with him?
The method of executing democracy in the States is truly baffling.
The delay between election and inauguration is so that there's a smooth transfer of power: unlike here where there's effectively a permanent civil service, in the States the top levels get replaced so there's a handover period. Once that's up then the new guys aren't allowed by law to talk to the old guys. There was a Vanity Fair article about when the Trump administration took over, amongst a raft of other things few of them had the necessary security clearance to take on their roles or even talk about them to the incumbents.
MCTD - the Independent; I read it but cannot link it.
It reads as if he has instructed the wilful destruction of the US civil service as an independent entity.
It reads as if he has instructed the wilful destruction of the US civil service as an independent entity.
Wonder who inspired who, between him and Cummings?
But don't the outgoing Presidency leaves guidance on certain matters? A bit like Obama left a 69-page National Security Council playbook on fighting pandemics that Trump seemed to have ignored.
There'll be a lot of handover stuff, ranging from: Here's the code for the nukes, to: This landed on my desk, it's up to you to deal with it. A bit like any job really, just with some bigger consequences.
I imagine the "handover stuff" will consist of shit smeared all over the walls of the Oval Office
Then he’s going to alter the law which won’t be a quick process but even if he does, won’t Biden just re-alter it as President or just sack them as Trump has done with anyone who hasn’t agreed with him?
I'm sure Biden, if he wins, is going to clean house at the WH and DOJ, and anywhere else there is any stink of Trump remaining.
If necessary, I'm sure he could abolish then recreate a particular role under another name.
"The method of executing democracy in the States is truly baffling"
Trump has been doing an excellent job of executing democracy by strangling the life out of it.
trump, according to the Indy report, is preparing to remove very large numbers of permanent and independent civil servants and replace them his political placemen.
That can be done at any point right uptown the inauguration.
Removal of experience and independence in a deliberate attempt to cripple a Biden administration - if he wins.
One person I'd be glad to see go if trump loses is Kayleigh McEnany. How can someone so intelligent defend his constant blatant lies?

OK fine, but if a president can remove permanent civil servants and replace them with his own dudes, what stops Biden from just swapping them all back? With a nice simple list of "everyone to kick out on day one" provided by Trump?

How would you tell the difference? When in power he killed a quarter of a million citizens and destroyed entire departments and filled every post with brown-nosers, incompetents and lunatics. He hasn't got a lot further to go except for maybe a bombing campaign.
OK fine, but if a president can remove permanent civil servants and replace them with his own dudes, what stops Biden from just swapping them all back?
I read that report in the paper, and couldn't fathom the exact problem either.
You're assuming that any/all of them would still be available and would want to return having been kicked out unceremoniously.
One day in post would be too long for any of trump's polyps.
There’ll be a lot of handover stuff,
Given how opposed to doing anything that doesn’t directly benefit himself (and how committed his appointees are to doing what he says, no matter how bollocks) how likely do we think it is he’ll put any effort into that, if at all? I reckon Biden will be lucky to get given a front door key as a handover.
The reports of how little he and his team did when coming in are eye opening.
Won't need a front door key once the military has booted the front door down and dragged the orange pleb out*
*only joking I'm sure he'll leave buy his own admission if he loses.
