There’s a brilliant one where the Hulk walking away music is playing over the top that I enjoyed.
It's quite amazing to see how a bunch on K-pop fans have delivered a heavier blow to Trump than any political opponent has thus far managed.
Or did they? Nice to think so but read the analysis on the Post.
Not just K-pop, but TikTok’ers too.
Anyway, did anyone see this one? Not Trump but another conspiracy-driven “all news is fake” Republican candidate that some of his supporters will lap up:
The latest Neal Stephenson novel has a theme of a massive hoax to make people believe Moab has been nuked, result in a schism between what was described as the reality based towns, and Ameristan which basically lives their lives based on whatever conspiracy and unrestricted feed the internet pumps at them. It’s getting closer.
The weird thing is, that's actually the most normal we've seen him move for a long time.
Yeah, I saw a tweet that said after all the stuff that has happened, the COVID; murders, wars, fighting, deaths, etc, etc, the thing that made him look old, vulnerable, beaten and sad was the poor showing at his rally.
It's all about him.
It’s a bit like watching that video of the rolling rally car the other day, but in slow motion, and the car is full of ostriches, and every time it rolls another ostrich comes flying out, and as each ostrich hits the ground it starts whooshing like a catherine wheel, and all the orange penguins who are watching the crash come running out with brooms and try and put the ostriches out by hitting them with their brooms, but the brooms just catch fire and the penguins panic and stat rolling around on the ground surrounded by exploding ostriches as the car rolls on and on spewing out ever more ostriches.
Wasn't that in relation to a thread about Fruit the astroturfer rather than Tangerine Man the President?
PLEASE LINK ME TO THAT GIF!!! I've lost it.
An excerpt from another presidential speech yesterday...

The above took place in a church too, with the crowd wooping loudly as he reeled off racist names for Covid 19. What the hell is happening?
He's got a delivery like Jim Jones after he went full psycho.
Rambling, incoherent, some dog whistle phrases.
What's the 19?
Covid 19 first emerged in 2019.
We're more than halfway through 2020 and the president says he's still failed to find a satisfactory answer to 'whats the 19?' 🙂
Meanwhile the rest of us have failed to find a satisfactory answer to what to do about Trump.
Oh that's not hard, we just get the eagles to drop him into that volcano in mordor
we just get the eagles to drop him into that volcano in mordor
Well, that’s taking it to the limit...

His speeches are starting to read like Captain Beefheart or Beck lyrics. How can he be in charge of anything? It’s not right
Oh that’s not hard, we just get the eagles to drop him into that volcano in mordor
Are they even back on speaking terms?
The whole “What’s the 19?” thing is a dog whistle to the people that think it is manmade and the pandemic was planned.
They think 19 means it is the 19th strain or batch. 🙄
His speeches are starting to read like Captain Beefheart or Beck lyrics.
Waffle, waffle, waffle… “this great country”… lie, confuse, lie again, waffle… “this great country of ours”…

Worth a special mention though to the lady who, in her allocated 2 mins, managed to lever in devil, 5G, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, "the pedophiles" and the deep state.

Crikey.
Why do they give people with obvious mental issues a platform like that? Bit sad really. Funny too though.
Why do they give people with obvious mental issues a platform like that?
Its local democracy and everyone deserves a voice, unfortunately it is often the case that the only people who use that voice are those with the strongest views.
Now the secret service have people self isolating after the glorious rally.
Shit, just seen GrahamS's link, there's loads of em. 🙁
Jesus!......section the entire ****ing lot and remove them from the population, ****ing crazy evangelical nutjobs
There is an awful lot of trump in that lady's delivery.

Is that a euphemism?

That's because a lot of it is QAnon conspiracy nonsense that Trump knowingly or unknowingly references.

It has been an interesting week over the other side of the pond, the corporate socialism message seems to be getting through, and people are starting to realize exactly how the economy is rigged for the benefit of a just few. The lock down bailout was just so blatant that even the american public started to see through the smokescreen of propaganda.
Right wing democrat incumbents have been ousted by progressives (who would still be right wing in Europe), the biggest swing against trump has been in non college educated white men. Shame the democrats leadership have fielded old biddy Biden the billionaires bitch, but they are just as bad as the gop, thankfully there are signs of encouragement that things are changing at grass root level. Lets just hope that America can change from the oligarchy it has become, it woiuld be better for us all if they did.
for the benefit of a just few
I know what you meant, but this means something entirely different. Ironically this is what a lot of those in power probably believe.

It's almost as if the tweet he sent was designed to make us go crazy and talk less about the second point.
Is everyone doing a David Blunkett impression except Donald in that photo?
It seems the photo is of Faith leaders praying with Donald Trump during a rally in Miami In January. Interesting how he won’t close his eyes. Maybe he doesn’t trust them tricky religious types.
Keeping his eyes open for any advance warning of a smiting. Surprised he didn't burst into flame when he was waving the bible around the other week. Has anyone got any footage of him inside an actual consecrated church?
It is bizarre how evangelicals are prepared to throw themselves so comprehensively behind a money-loving, lying, cheating, fornicating sleazebag like that.

Which bit of American evangelism do you not understand? 😄😂
Spend some time on r/thedonald or any of the other Trumpet talking shops and you soon run in to people who think Trump is literally The Saviour.
Helped by the fact that:
- the QAnon nutters have him fighting a secret coded war with the child-eating Satanists
- and he is supported by evangelicals as he is (currently) Pro-Life (ish).
It is bizarre how evangelicals are prepared to throw themselves so comprehensively behind a money-loving, lying, cheating, fornicating sleazebag like that.
Lots of Evangelicals see Trump as a King Cyrus type figure, other just see their own prejudices reflected back at them. Trump's loathing of LGBT groups, refugees, abortion rights, independent women, Muslims, immigration...Are pretty much shared by all the major TV christian churches. Lots of them stray dangerously close to white supremacy as well...It's all pretty ugly.
Its always struck me as weird that Christianity got co-opted by the right in America.
I'm not remotely religious but even I can see that Trump and Jesus don't really seem to have very similar philosophies.
But the some "Christians" seem to absolutely lap it up.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/03/donald-trump-church-photo-op-evangelicals
The Horbowys had gathered in Tallahassee, Florida, to watch live as Trump walked from the White House to St John’s. “My mother just shouted out, ‘God give him strength! He’s doing a Jericho walk!’”
A Jericho walk, in some evangelical circles, refers to the biblical book of Joshua, where God commanded the Israelites to walk seven times around the opposing city of Jericho, whose walls then came crashing down.
Horbowy already supported Trump politically – he heads the local chapter of a pro- Trump motorcycle club and is campaigning for a seat in Florida’s state senate – but when Trump lifted the Bible, Horbowy and his family felt overcome spiritually.
“My mother started crying. She comes from Pentecostal background, and she started speaking in tongues. I haven’t heard her speak in tongues in years,” he said. “I thought, look at my president! He’s establishing the Lord’s kingdom in the world.”
That honestly sounds like something out of the middle ages
Its always struck me as weird that Christianity got co-opted by the right in America.
It's a massive subject, but don't forget that when mainland America was settled in the 17thC by what would have been (even then) religious fundamentalists, they took a strictly conservative view on pretty much everything from Slave ownership (It's the brown people's natural position to be owned by white people) , to women's rights (you don't have any) and so on and on, and those churches are still more or less preaching the same things now.
Back in the day these folk went to war on the fact that one settler released slaves from their bondage to set up an egalitarian society based on the (obviously idiotic*) idea that "All men are created equal..." Their descendants are pretty much still fighting those wars...
* Thomas Morton The early Puritan settlements were pretty racist shocker!
As ever there seems to be a slim line between "person who is a devout evangelical believer" and "person with mental health issues".
Bit of a tangent, but saw this while indulging my other hobby (debunking flat earth) and thought it related well to mentally unwell/religious American types being taken in by charismatic leaders.
Quite an amazing story really. Founded by John Dowie an evangelist and faith healer who taught that all medical science was a sham because poor health was a result of personal sinfulness.
He styled himself as "Elijah the Restorer" and performed "miracles" to "cure" people.
Built up a following of around 6000 and eventually established the city of Zion in 1901, forcing his followers to put all their money in the "Bank of Zion".
He had a stroke at the age of 57, probably due to all his "personal sinfulness" as investigators found $2.5 to 3.4 million of Zion funds were unaccounted for.
Wilbur Glenn Voliva took over in 1906 and rescued Zion from bankruptcy and enforced tight rule over the city: banning all other religions and even dictating choice of marriage partners.
He got into flat earth and is quoted as saying all too familiar nonsense like this:
The idea of a sun millions of miles in diameter and 91,000,000 miles away is silly. The sun is only 32 miles across and not more than 3,000 miles from the earth. It stands to reason it must be so. God made the sun to light the earth, and therefore must have placed it close to the task it was designed to do. What would you think of a man who built a house in Zion and put the lamp to light it in Kenosha, Wisconsin?
He also predicted the end of the world in 1923, 1927, 1930, 1934 and 1935, but also claimed that he would live to 120 due to his diet of Brazil nuts and buttermilk.
He had amassed a $5 million personal fortune by 1927 but was declared bankrupt in 1937.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1942 (probably due to the sinfulness) he made a tearful public confession to his followers that he had misappropriated church funds for his personal use. He died shortly afterwards, at the age of 72.
Zion still exists today.
Bloody Hell Graham that is quite a story!
Nut jobs in the US are nothing new are they, all these trumpers are just following a long long line of gullible idiots taken in by grifters.
Bloody Hell Graham that is quite a story!
Yeah, its very far from unique though. I'm not sure if cults are under reported elsewhere in the world but the U.S. seems to specialise in them.
It probably a combination of lots of empty space and lots of guns to protect your "community". A ready supply of credulous fools probably helps too, but they aren't exactly in short supply elsewhere.
Ahhh. The good old days when all we had to worry about was Trump trying to start WW3.
There's always a tweet:
Its always struck me as weird that Christianity got co-opted by the right in America.
It's funny, but in the very small sample pool of practising Christians that I know, most are Conservative voters.
I would love to know how they are able to embrace both ideologies at once.
I would love to know how they are able to embrace both ideologies at once.
He's a sinner but he's their sinner (abortion, supreme court etc)
small sample pool of practising Christians that I know, most are Conservative voters.
Up until quite recently, most church going Christians and the centre right/left "post war settlement" politics (Blair Cameron Obama Bush-ish) could agree on more than they could disagree on. It's not hugely surprising that as US politics becomes progressively further and further right wing, the ideologues reveal supporters from more extreme religious positions as well.
Jesus had a pretty clear message on wealth and greed, there can be no confusion about his thoughts on the matter. Yet they would rather scour the old testament for obscure passages which could, when looked at in candlelight and if you squint, suggest homosexuality is naughty.

"Prosperity theology (sometimes referred to as the prosperity gospel, the health and wealth gospel, the gospel of success, or seed faith)[A] is a religious belief among some Protestant Christians that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for them, and that faith, positive speech, and donations to religious causes will increase one's material wealth.[1] Prosperity theology views the Bible as a contract between God and humans: if humans have faith in God, he will deliver security and prosperity.[2]"
...
"Prosperity theology has been criticized by leaders from various Christian denominations, including within the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, who maintain that it is irresponsible, promotes idolatry, and is contrary to scripture. Secular as well as some Christian observers have also criticized prosperity theology as exploitative of the poor. The practices of some preachers have attracted scandal and some have been charged with financial fraud."

If Jesus was real I reckon he would have nothing but contempt for a lot of the aspects of modern Christianity. Pope tooling around in his gangsta finery being a prime example. That’s a whole different thread though.
More Lincoln Project.

nickc,
Thanks for the link to Thomas Morton. Really interesting. I was thinking what a good film his story would make, then realised I was playing images of Terrence Malick's 'New World' in my heed as I was reading the link.
Probably the beat exposition of the American origin myth that I can think of and the storyline echoes the experience or Thomas Morton. A great film, though not one for those with a short attention span!

She laughs when I remind her that she admitted feeling like “the help”. “That was because of the Trump children,” she says. “That’s the way they were raised. One time, Ivanka said to me and the other black women there: ‘You speak very well.’ We were like: ‘What?’ I don’t believe she meant it to be insulting. Bless her heart. But looking back, especially in the climate we’re in now, you’d be like: ‘C’mon girl. We went to school, too.’”
The high opinion she had of Trump at the start of making Celebrity Apprentice quickly plummeted. “He was obsessed with becoming president and I believe it was because a black man had done it. And Obama had done it so well that, throughout his presidency, Trump was always on him. To this day, he can’t keep his name off his tongue. It’s an awful obsession. I love the way Obama handles it, such grace under fire.”
