Does seem odd, given they are claiming to have hundreds of thousands of people registering for tickets. If true, maybe the people behind him in camera shot are always hired?!

Rumor has it that they hired lots of actors for the 2016 campaign, through agencies, but stiffed them on payment. So now they can't go through those agencies again.

Also see the orange one is trying to block publication of Boltons book. How do the get away with always proclaiming that it is the left that supposedly blocks free speech, when it is always the right wingers suppressing protests, blocking publication of tell all books and imprisoning whistle blowers.

It’s kind of crazy how really old all the Presidential candidates are

Trump
Biden
Saunders
Warren

I was thinking this earlier too. Lots of old folk who are stuck in their ways. Has there ever been a President of the US drop down dead whilst in office?

William Henry Harrison managed to do it in 1841, just a month after taking the oath of office and the first of 8. Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy all being assassinated.

Its all down to name recognition and the capacity to rake in donations.

The donations tend to come in from the older voters and they tend to prefer the older candidates. Name recognition - it helps if you have been around for ever.

Using this formula don't expect anything to change. Unless one of them falls over on the campaign trail then it might prompt a rethink.

US President Donald Trump's niece is set to publish an unflattering tell-all memoir about him. So who is she and why has she come forward now?

On 28 July, Mary Trump is due to release Too Much And Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man, Simon & Schuster announced on Monday.

The book will hit the shelves just weeks before the Republican National Convention, when her uncle will accept the party's nomination for his re-election bid in November.

So Trump has come out and said there is an aids vaccine which is 100% incorrect. The guys an absolute moron the stuff he says is disgusting. Hes just saying stuff to fill time because hes got nothing useful to say. It boggles my mind how anyone can actually support this. In the past month or so hes told he there is a cure for Aids and you can cure corona with "light." If you vote for this bloke do the world a favour put your head in an oven and save the future of the human race.

Bolton's book available to pre-order from Waterstones; other book shops are available.
The teasers in US media make this a must-read.
Interesting that dems and republicans have both been critical - dems for him not appearing before the senate but writing a tell-all and republicans for perceived lack of loyalty.
Pissing off both sides of the US political divide is quite a performance.

In other news, the 1917 Spanish flu ended WWI.

Maybe we need to erect a statue of The Spanish Flu on one of these empty plinths.

Interestingly the only reason Spanish Flu is called Spanish Flu isn't because it originated from Spain or was even particularly prevalent there- Spain was a neutral in WW1 and didn't have an embargoed press and so were the only country really reporting the epidemic. It may in fact really be 'Kansas Flu'

Which begs the question why he continues to employ all these losers and dopes, rather than the 'best people' that he promised.

The teasers in US media make this a must-read.

Don't buy it. This unprincipled bellend had the opportunity to make a stand and try to testify before Congress/Senate with all this information earlier this year. That could actually have made a difference, perhaps even saved an awful lot of American lives. He doesn't deserve to profit from it now.

The best bits will be in the papers anyhow.

If Bolton had testified how would that have possibly saved an '....awful lot of American lives?'
The book's release date is perfectly timed to do maximum damage to trump as the re-election campaign starts.
We know trump has an incredibly thin skin so Bolton mocking, humiliating and exposing him is....sweet.

100% this. He's a coward who refused to testify before or during Trump's sham impeachment trial when his stories could have had a real impact. If there are any revelations they'll make it into the newspapers, but I suspect it'll just be more of the same s**t we've seen over the years - a clear moron doing stupid things.

Still no explanation of how Bolton could have 'perhaps saved American lives' by appearing before the senate.
It wasn't simply a case of him saying...thanks for the invite but no; go back to refresh your memory of the facts.
As for the campaign ads post by Mehr, they should tell you that trump is immeasurably worse than Bolton; there is no bottom for the odious orange buffoon and his pathetic acolytes.

Have we talked about the openly white supremacist Trump reelection Facebook campaign yet..?

The 88 specific campaign ads featuring Red triangles? In Nazi Germany, red identifying triangles were reserved for certain types of folk heading to labour and death camps, ie leftists social democrats those who helped Jews...

To be fair, the anti-fascists are also using a very similar symbol.
However, they should have known better, Trump and his team are just ignorant.
Or, thinking about it, both sides are ignorant.
Though it seems whatever symbol or name used by people is almost certain to offend someone else.
Lady Antebellum have changed their name, due to a artistic movement connected to the US south.
A brewer has just had to apologise for using the name of an obscure hindu god on his beer.
Some Hindus still have the swastika as one of their religious symbols.
It would offend many people seeing someone display that.
Many years ago, there were protests by an Asian religion about the name of 'their' god being used on the side of bin lorries (SITA comes to mind, though its a long time ago).
I think its time to lighten up and stop being offended by the most minor of things.

Trump and his cohorts didnt use the red triangle for the reason it was used 80 years ago, they just didnt know any history about it. They are pretty clueless, but being offended by such a thing is also a bit daft. If they continue using it, then there would be a real cause to be offended, but as a first offence (I know they keep doing stupid things), and now the error of their ways has been pointed out to them, I dont think they'll use it again.

Sorry, not buyin' it. Trump personally might not know the significance I agree. But the person that ran that campaign ad knew exactly what they were doing. There were 88  Ads (significant number, look it up) The word count of first sentence of the Ad has a very significant number also (the use of this sort of code; counting letters in first sentences has a long history in US fascism and neo Nazi circles, it's not done in error or blind luck), the use of that specific Nazi identification symbol, also not an accident.

The problem is this plausible deniability thing. It’s being repeatedly exploited by people as a nudge, nudge, wink, wink to their base.

“Blame on both sides”

Now, I don’t know if this red triangle thing is anything. I’m blissfully unaware of all the hateful right wing symbolism that’s out there. But I think we’ve seen enough about the Trump administration to know that they probably are familiar with these sorts of symbols. You never see an accidental peace symbol worked into any Trump campaign media.

So no, I won’t be giving the Nazi party the benefit of the doubt unless they start trying to show they aren’t Nazis.

Yeah sorry, for those of us knee deep into the sad and frankly pretty pathetic history of  specific groups of Racist/Fascist  America, this sort of stuff is blindly obvious. The only metaphor I could use is that you as an experienced MTBer would spot straight away a shit bike trying to passed off as an expensive one...You'd know what to look for and you spot the mistakes straight away, planes nerds also can look a photo and spot; "Oh, that's a Mk4b not a Mk5a" etc etc.

Same here, there are things in those Ads designed to be picked up by certain groups.

BTW I don't think that Trump or his govt is suddenly going to break open the box containing the smart uniforms, and start a building program of huge ugly monuments, but someone in his re-election campaign is either from those groups directly or is openly targeting those groups.

nickc - you have just cited the only two cool things the Nazis actually did - some smart buildings and sexy uniforms. Yeah, I think the administration as a whole is so shoddy that they haven't really got a good handle on who's doing what, or what people are being recruited and what they're doing. The Republican party has been edging towards this for decades now, but they've always coached their language before. Now, not so much.

Kind of struggling with the hidden in plain sight Nazi symbolism thing, it just comes across as daft conspiracy theory nonsense. And why would Trumps campaign team bother? I doubt any typical right wing loon is currently sitting on the fence wondering who to vote for.

Oh fo'shure. I get that. There's load of on line sites that track these groups and are looking at these Ads and are saying the same things.."why" "Do they understand the relevance and symbolism" "is it from a fake acct" all that...The known facts are, The ads are from a legitimate Trump acct, they did appear, and got taken down just as quickly. Were they agreed? Does Trump understand? Were they written by rogue elements within the re-election campaign?...don't know.

But it does fit a pattern of 1. "say something outrageous" 2. "claim innocence, or bad actors or fake news"  3. "Say the outrageous things again". which is the Trump modus-operandi with ads that are designed wind up the non-supporters,and give a wink to the supporters

That is dangerous thinking IMHO.

What about if someone is 'on the fence' as to whether to allow their small-town's racist views to pervade their thoughts and opinions vs what they'll see in the rest of the world (people taking a stand against racism, multinational companies, people just generally being accepting). If the President is doing it, it must be OK, right? It doesn't even have to be conscious thing, either. These sorts of nudges are what change minds.
Plus, this sort of stuff solidifies Trump's base (which at this point is, frankly, racists), makes sure they come out to vote and potentially become activists for Trump and spread his messages on Facebook, Twitter etc. It's sickening.

Looks like the Tulsa rally won't work out as the orange buffoon wanted.
The outdoor overflow stage has been removed because there is no overflow crowd.
As for attendance inside the arena, with about 30mins until trump is scheduled to appear it's less than half full.
It's being reported he's furious that the news about 6 staffers from the advance party testing +ve for CV19 was made public.
He's had a shit week so far; let's hope it continues.

I think this is attributed to BigDummy off here from over 10 years ago. Appropriate though.

It's a bit like watching that video of the rolling rally car the other day, but in slow motion, and the car is full of ostriches, and every time it rolls another ostrich comes flying out, and as each ostrich hits the ground it starts whooshing like a catherine wheel, and all the orange penguins who are watching the crash come running out with brooms and try and put the ostriches out by hitting them with their brooms, but the brooms just catch fire and the penguins panic and stat rolling around on the ground surrounded by exploding ostriches as the car rolls on and on spewing out ever more ostriches.

Its a very studied effort in 'looking tired'. Is he trying to tug his Base's heart strings?

Of all the challenges a world leader can have to face in this year of death and disease, civil unrest, economic catastrophe and mass unemployment .... in the face of all that its 'talking to a smaller number of fans than anticipated' that leaves him looking a bit tired

Kayleigh McEnany to stand there and claim the term Kung Flu is valid to say as it refers to the place of origin of the flu. IMO Kayleigh wants putting down along with Trump.
