World is a big old place. Lots of places to hide.

2pc of German soldiers in Africa knew about the Holocaust. If that many people knew in the modern world it would be on FB worldwide in an afternoon.

But that's not really my argument. The Nazis were born out of extreme misery and suffering and desperation that we are not currently experiencing.

You won't be able to find a single serious Historian who thinks Trump/Brexit are equivalent to early the Nazi era, and plenty who say it's nowhere near.

I'm not saying it can't happen again in Europe or the States. [1] When the phosphate crisis kicks in and we're all miserable and hungry, maybe a rumour will get around that the Welsh are hoarding food and maybe that will end in a level of hatred where we ship them all off to death camps and nick their fields. But that's not where we are now.

[1] Obviously it is happening elsewhere in the world.

I support President Trump because he wants to look after the Merican people first. To me that is absolutely right. Take care of Merica first while the rest of the world can take care of themselves.

You're not an American. It's none of your business. (According to you).

You do appear to be a complete nitwit, however.

No offense.

indeed but she wasnt always legal as an immigrant

At least base your rants on proven facts. Surely you have lots of them to choose from.

ninfan, the counter argument is 8 U.S.C. 1152

"no person shall receive any preference or priority or be discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence".

Of course that doesn't say you can't discriminate on the grounds of religion. Makes you think.

I suspect this will end up in court.

@chewkw

1) You're fourteen years old.
2) You've limited emotional intelligence.

Well he reels them in every day.

So if he is indeed a fourteen year old with limited emotional intelligence then what does it say about his catches?

It seems Melania entered the country legally but then worked under a tourist visa which was illegal. But I'm sure all the trump supporters are fine with other immigrants doing that as well yes?

I believe another counter-argument is that this was also applied to US citizens (green card holders) who should be protected under the First Amendment's right to religious expression.

I believe Donald operates a points-based system in these situations - if you're an eight or above, that's fine with him.

The Donald has said that he's fast-processing Christians from the middle east who are fleeing terrorism. Which is nice that he's concerned about the safety of persecuted religious people, but puzzling.

The vast majority of Islamic Terrorist persecution and murder victims are.... Muslims.

Yes, Muslims = bad, Christians = Good.

Just don't go to middle America and see all the extreme Christians.

But Mr Woppit those are facts! You can't be going around quoting facts now can you? Please quote some alternative facts* instead.

Why do Americans insist on using so many syllables when one (lies) will do?

For whoever it was who said that the petition was pointless and would achieve nothing, and would be simply ignored under the excuse that the issue had already been discussed :

Parliament to debate Trump state visit after 1.6m sign petition

The debate will be on 20 February.

I for one believe that whatever the final result that the government should be held accountable for the decisions they make, silently accepting whatever the government chooses to decide is not acceptable and healthy.

I love btw how the rival petition with its ridiculous wording will also be debated. It sums it all up really 🙂

Spicer says assuming 5 year old American citizens aren't a threat would be wrong.

(and in a classic Big Lie, they're focusing entirely on the 109 "temporarily inconvenienced" people who were processed in US airports and ignoring everyone else affected- everyone taken off a plan or refused boarding, everyone refused a visa. Only 109 people affected folks, hardly worth mentioning, for the safety of us all!

e.g. my Iranian colleague who recently moved out to California. Now stuck there. As far as I know he's not a terrorist, at least he's never mentioned it.

@mike yes agreed rather disorganised. Certainky made headlines and maybe that was the point. Trump used the "shock" tactic to great effect during the campaign.

@kimbers, a debate indeed. Proven wrong 🙂

@Graham I'd be willing to bet that the terms and conditions of a Green card allow it be withdrawn as/when the US sees fit

Anyway Trump due to make two major statements today ...

Infrastructure spend ?
Tax policy ?
Illegal Immigrant deportations .
Scrap Paris Accord ?
Withdraw from Iran nuclear deal ?

My gut feel is they will be domestically focused

Ah trump's statements are in:
1. Making big money for America, no really huge money, you've never seen so much money. Yeah!
2. Donald Trump Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too

Possibly, I'm not going to start into a rabbit hole of US immigration law to find out. The green card site does say they have the following rights:

As a permanent resident (green card holder), you have the right to:

- Live permanently in the United States provided you do not commit any actions that would make you removable under immigration law
- Work in the United States at any legal work of your qualification and choosing. (Please note that some jobs will be limited to U.S. citizens for security reasons)
- Be protected by all laws of the United States, your state of residence and local jurisdictions

Source:
https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/rights-and-responsibilities-permanent-resident/rights-and-responsibilities-green-card-holder-permanent-resident

As it was the administration seemed to have reversed that initial decision and it now (probably) doesn't apply to green card holders. (Though they are still subject to extra screening). (Maybe). 🙄

Lowest approval ratings ever and still tumbling, I'm not even sure he'll survive the first impeachment vote at this rate

He knows he's got to try and pull off something that doesn't turn into a huge shitstorm within 24hrs,

based on his track record so far..... I reckon faecal tempest

The trouble is he can make easy gains, he can cut taxes, he can remove environmental and employment protection, he can boost a housing bubble, he can reduce healthcare. In the short term these will give the appearance of success for the majority. He doesn't give a shit about the long term affects of defunding essential services, he doesn't give a shit if a few more percent are thrown on the scrap heap, the american (and growing worldwide) narrative is to blame the victims, he doesn't have to live with the long term affects.

He might want to but he's got to get it past Congress and the Senate. Trump might view himself as a single-term-engineer-a-happy-4-years-on-borrowed-money-and-stuff-the-next-administration, but the other people in govt will be wanting re-election and will not want to be clearing up the mess.

Spicer says

This could be a new game, like what tweets will Lauren Laverne read out.

Anyone know what colour his eyes are? Mate unleashed the best line to someone once - your so full of shit your eyes just turned brown.
Promotion for the first journo to say that.
Or maybe we could seek his opinions in the bread vs cake debate.

Oh no, you're arguing on the internet with other anonymous strangers.....cos that makes so much difference..

Whereas others are out taking to the streets & being counted..

Yeah, you're the man when it comes to incisive & demonstrative political action..

c) really who he says he is which is the most tragic of all the options

Either way he craves the attention. Ignore and he'll go away

Be interesting to see where this rabbit hole leads: has Trump, via some offshore nested companies, received 19% of Rosneft in return for the promise to lift Russian sanctions?

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-rosneft-privatisation-insight-idUSKBN1582OH

If we see an announcement on sanctions being eased, restricted in the next wee while, I'm not saying its definite but.....follow the money.
