It's not an either or situation, lets see how trumps modernisation of the military plays out. If it was an either or situation, why the need for trumps comments on the military. They have more than enough to protect their borders.

I thought my second paragraph answered the assertion.

i wasn't really answering you tbh just the quote. 😉

The solution is simple. Stay out and stay gone. Let them deal with their problems themselves and let them fight until their heart content.

I'm inclined to agree in general - as long as that means not selling arms overseas - to ANYONE. Oh and one of the big problems with international relations is the impotence of the UN.

"But, you can't argue that it doesn't explain the countries encompassed by the 2017 ban, when the Usual suspects were claiming that it was random or affected by Trumps business interests. So, how come Obama picked those same countries?"

This.

He is based in the US. His family live there. Not being there at the moment means he can't go.

Just to correct the Mo thing, Mo Farrah is a British citizen with a British passport, he doesn't have dual nationality or citizenship with Somalia. The rules allow him to travel freely to America to train, live and be with his family.

Trump, Farage and all the over populist politicians breed on the discontent of inequality.

We have people with too much and others with too little, fix that and these idiots wont have anything to feed on.

taxi25 - as I understand it, your country of birth is taken into account. It's quite possible this was based on early reports though

Post-truth innit. We can all decide our own facts. So if Taxi25 says Mo is good to go, then he is.

He might want to shoot the Olympian a message, tho, as he seems a bit unsure still.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/29/even-men-risk-lives-us-denied-entry-dream-america-dead/

The Telegraph have found an an Iraqi on the "The Iraqi Special Immigrant Visa" designed for "people who had put themselves at risk by working with the Americans" who has been refused entry.

I think Ernie may be right - America will be weaker if in future people think twice about helping them.

The US will be weaker first and foremost because it is entering into a more isolationist/protectionist era misguidedly. Those responsible will ultimately be called to account. Hopefully in no more than 4 years.

@Taxi25's point, discussion's centred on citizenship but the executive order itself just says "from countries" and doesn't specify citizenship, residency, place of birth, all of which could be interpreted as "from countries"

"I hereby proclaim that the immigrant and nonimmigrant entry into the United States of aliens from countries referred to in section 217(a)(12) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12), would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, and I hereby suspend entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order"

Though of course it's already been well covered that the order was confusingly vague and the authorities have struggled to implement it. I liked the story of the airport border officer who, realising that the directions he'd been given were full of holes, and discovering his superiors didn't know anything, directed all of his policy enquiries to the president, because nobody else could tell them what they were supposed to be doing.

I'm not sure that the list of countries can be attributed to the Obama administration, as we all know he was secretly a Muslim and was opening the borders to Muslim refugees, so they could come to America and vote Democrat.

What is clear is that they are making it up as they go along, and no one really knows what is happening. Save the Christians!

WASHINGTON — A top White House official appeared to reverse a key part of President Trump’s immigration order on Sunday, saying that people from the affected countries who hold green cards will not be prevented from returning to the United States.

But the official, Reince Priebus, the White House chief of staff, also said that border agents had “discretionary authority” to detain and question suspicious travelers from certain countries. That statement seemed to add to the uncertainty over how the executive order will be interpreted and enforced in the days ahead.

No, the best virtue signalling is from the 2500 US located people who have signed the petition 😆

(360 from Switzerland, 160 from South Africa, 556 from the Netherlands, 960 from Germany, 897 from Australia...etc.)

So he will not be affected at all, yes? All the fuss for nothing ... typical sensational news innit. The question now is why is he mouthing off on the news saying that he might be affected?

Where is Brendan Foster when you need him to be dramatic eh ... 😆

If the America is going to be weaker, assuming no longer the strongest, who do you think will step in the 1st place to be the most powerful? I want to see the country that will claim to be the first.

4 years? If everything goes according to plan with their economy, employments etc President Trump will complete his two full terms easy.

People voted for President Trump because people want to earn a living in Merica and not to nose around in other parts of the world where they see their own livelihood disappear ...

Sort being number one when their own people are starving or jobless. They should take care of their own and let others take care of their own.

😛

Genuine question, how do I block seeing all posts by that chewy fella. His jibberish ruins threads, adds no value, I ignore them anyway but its every second post ffs.

Instead of just blocking him from appearing in the thread, why don't we just arbitrarily ban him for until we figure out what's going on? How does 90 days sound? Fair?

No real need to justify why, other than the fact he has different views to most people in here. Plus he's in another country. Plus there are other MTB internet forums where he can hang out and annoy people.

I'm sure he won't mind. 😉

To be fair, if chewkw ever does produce a considered argument, it's entirely possible he'll win me over, if only out of shock. But mostly what he is, is a thread vandal.

That is quite a brilliant idea, I imagine that he'd support the suggestion too as he's such an advocate of The Doughnut.

As far as i can tell, some posters on this thread don't seem to be able to tell the difference between politics and basic human decency. Remember, Hitler was a politician, and history shows very clearly how that all ended, and how he is ultimately judged.

I don't care if you are right wing, left wing, centre, liberal, black, white, blue or pink, if you live in the USA, UK, or LaLa Land, deep inside we all know what is right, and policies that block innocent peoples basic right to freedom are NOT right.

As i said on this very thread a couple of weeks back, Trumps Presidency will be swamped by "Playground Politics". Nothing good or of any merit will be achieved, except a lot of arguing, and people will be left more divided than ever before.

As much as I am sure there are some on here who would like to see the back of you, I'm not actually advocating a ban for you.

That is quite a brilliant idea

Why, thank you. 🙂

Nah, not a chance as i imagine he'll either suffer a heart attack or stroke due to the stress of the position he's found himself in, although i wish neither on him as hate serves no-one in this game he's playing out.

It is Not hate. He is just being practical.

The key is to create jobs. If he can do that 8 years is going to be easy although he might get a bit of headache from shouty, shouty protesters from time to time that is a small price to pay.

For one moment I thought someone was interested in a bet, I meant I would have to wait 8 years for a dozen Cornish Pilser ... to confirm my bet. 😛

I'm presuming he'll direct all American funds into opening a wormhole into an alternative dimension where a large portion of the world don't view him as a dangerous buffoon. But even with infinite dimensions it's a bit of a reach. Also he won't read his executive order before signing it and he'll end up in a dimension where he is actually a dangerous baboon, still it would solve our problems either way.

Trump must be laughing up his sleeve. He can go on making these Executive Orders and when the courts later rule against, he can just tell his acolytes that "they" are standing in the way of the American people. Assuming he doesn't just get bored with it all, he'll walk another term.

@Klunk, the funny thing is if you turned up at Ellis Island and where sick they sent you back. Brutal. People used all the money they had to buy a passage and had no idea they would be admitted. The current immigration/visa programme even with this ban is far more generous.

Let's not forget that it's only a few pages back in this thread where certain people were looking forwards, predicting how upset and betrayed all his supporters would feel when Trump inevetably didn't do what he said he was going to do, that it was all bullshit.

Ninfan hits the nail on the head. The people voted for Trump in order that he do this and the wall etc. The court judgement is a minor irritant for a small part of what he is doing. Ernie is quite right too, this ban is better than the worst case "total ban on Muslims".

If the courts push back on him it will play perfectly into his hands that the Democrat biased Supreme Court is "anti-American" - his supporters will lap that up. If Congress push back (they won't its a 90 day ban) ditto.

I don't support the ban but it's what America voted for and Trump won in a landslide victory.

so its like brexit means brexit? 😉

I thought people voted for trump because they wanted their jobs back?

even mike pence previously called a muslim ban offensive and unconstitutional...

the only people who will 'lap it up' are his racist fanboys of the alt-right

Yes it is, because the Doughnut hasn't got the brains to differentiate between different types of Muslims, nor the fact that a country may contain different religions. What the dull runt hasn't done is identify and ban terrorists (probably because most are home grown).
