[Closed] Doing something nice for someone this Xmas

On my dog walking route I regularly bump into an old gent, we chat and he gives the pooch a biscuit. I know his first name, and we chat about life in general. He has said he goes into Hospital on Xmas eve to have a routine op and should be out for Xmas eve night. I would like to give him a small gift this year but not sure what would be appropriate, plus I am working this Xmas so time is limited during the festive season ๐Ÿ™

Any suggestions.

Might he be embarrassed by you giving him a gift when he may not be able to give you one?

I think it's a very kind thing to do though.

Buy him "Papillon" (the book). Old people love stories like that.

If he walks about with a packet of biscuits on his person, maybe a thermos?

Make him a meal.

I would have done him a xmas lunch but I am not here over xmas due to work.

Not sure if he drinks due to health issues, but he is always pottering about in his garden.

Or something else edible....(not from greggs)

A nice packet of biscuits, say they're from the dog.

Garden you say?

A nice perennial to plant.
Some comfy gloves for working.

Maybe a cheap set of binoculars for his walk (if he has an interest in birds)

Does he live alone? Has he got family around him over christmas?

Something for the dog - a gift that's not directly for 'him' so he might not feel awkward about getting a gift, but not giving one?

or.....

Those microwaveable hand warmers to use while he's walking the dog?

Scarf?

Gloves?

If he likes gardening a magazine subscription, but you'd probably need to know his address which would get a bit stalker-ish....
