[#5644969]

We "might" be getting a dog in the next week or so, I say might because we still need to jump the hoop that is a home check and a few other final items need ironing out, but we need to come up with a name for said pup

He is a Pointer X

[img] [/img]

He is currently called "Auston" but we feel the need to find something more appropriate and mtb related.

The OH is very keen on Keith (as in Bontrager), but I just can't see myself shouting that in a field. So I open the debate to the STW brain for suggestions

Like to call animals after other animals.
That fine specimen looks like a "Badger" to me.

Yeah - thanks to "that" video - my first choice of Sprocket is now out of the running (what can I say I'm a Fraggle Rock kind of girl)

Wrecker - I did have a tortoise called Hedgehog, so I see where you're going with that

Dutch footballers are always a good source of names -

Denis (Bergkamp)
Jordi (Cruyff)
Dirk (Kuyt)
Ruud (Gullit or van Nistelrooy)
Clarence (Seedorf)
Wesley (Sneijder)
Frank (de Boer)
Edwin (van der Saar)

are all good dog names. He looks like a Jordi to me...

N'boogie? So you can shout "get down n'boogie" everytime it jumps up at someone.

How used to his current name is he (does he answer to it etc), as it may be confusing/difficult for him to get used to a new name?

How about Bomber?

That's actually really cool. I have a dog called bear. The hedgehog that lives in the garden is called prick. Kinda veered from my own naming protocol there.

NBoogie. Then, when he jumps up on the sofa, you can yell, "Get down, NBoogie!"

Or, failing that call him Myface.

Then, when in the park and he's lagging behind, you can shout out, for all to hear, "Come on...."

There was a bloke lived near me who called his dog 'Taxi'.

He said there was nothing more embarrassing than standing at the top of the Downs' shouting "TAXI" at the top of his voice and people looking at him thinking 'He's never going to get a cab stood there".

Friends of mine here have a dog called Taco and we used to have a rabbit called Pringle, so food items are a good sauce (geddit) of names...

MY dog was coincidentally already called Hope when we got her.
Mountain bikey, but in a subtle way. Also a pointer (not like that mongrel in the op's pic ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
(Other MTB brands are available)

a climbing buddy called his dog Slack. I'm not sure if he was more amused at the site of confused belayers when he called the dog or confused dog surrounded by people shouting his name.

@www I used to have a dog called Whisky...If she had been naughty it was like a stumbling across an open air scene from Father Ted.

If I get another it will be called Biscuit. But I also like the idea of proper names:
Dave
Frank
Gordon
Geraldine

Near me in Bridge of Allan the mountain rescue were called out when someone heard a shout of "Fell"... Yep you guessed it.

Our pointers sire was called Bruin which we liked. We ended up calling him Bruar which was close enough ๐Ÿ˜€

Some really good suggestions guys (not entirely about "My Face") and n'boogie made me smile.

I do like Hope, apparently my suggestion of Santa Cruz is no good either...

I had a pair of Bantums named Scotch and Sambuca

Our Daugther wants to call him Lola... Yes well... ๐Ÿ™„

Oh and thankfully pup doesn't seem to be too attached to his current name, so changing it shouldn't be an issue

What ever you call it, bear in mind at somepoint you *will* be wandering around a field yelling it. When its wildly out of control and should be on a lead ๐Ÿ˜‰

our next dog will be called 'crumble'

current pointer X is called 'cookie' and thats mighty manly to be shouting when he's out with the other gun dogs haha.

might call a dog 'dan' at some point just so i can stand around shouting 'dan, dan.... dan...... DAN!'

Our last dog was called Ducky, the one before that was Piggy **** face, and our next will be called Monkey

our OCD/slightly mental chihuahua is called Nicompooch, (shortened to Ninny normally), but always fun when people ask what her name is ๐Ÿ™‚

he looks like he could be quite a cheeky little one so you need something appropriate...

Am liking the idea of Bomber or Chipps (from the number of times he's saved me from myself on threads) or maybe Picolax? Or does that out me as a very sad STW'er?
