Hi All
I take a dog into work (small 10kg)
I currently drive, but am going to start riding more, has anyone used one of the dog carry rucsacs or just adapted a regular one

Or am I just becoming a crazy old dog guy 🙂

Is it a bit sad that I saw this thread and assumed it was about little rucksacks for dogs to carry all their stuff when they go out for walkies?

Also: 10kg?? No thanks!

Those do actually serve a useful purpose, if you've got a dog bread for working but keeping it as a pet then the rucksacks can help calm them down by giving them a job to do (yea I was skeptical too, but apparently they do have a concept of "carrying stuff" as a job too).

What about a drinks tray, and the telly remote? That would be quite useful

Trailer. Or a Baby Bjorn on the front (did that with my first born). But seriously, get a trailer.

Dog carry rucsacs?

Why, yes, of course they do!

I've been interested in this since the time I was gearing up to go caving in the Dales and a woman walked past with a Ridgeback carrying their kit in panniers. Brilliant!

Oh, you meant something else?

You could try a K9 - we have one - it works if the dog is
1. not an exciteable puppy
2. sensible and doesn't want to chase everything

We've ended up using it to carry beer on local loops with the dogs as 1. she's an exciteable puppy, 2, she's not sensible and likes to chase everything

The bigger dog might manage, but he's too heavy.

I have seen alternative solutions which might work better where you can attach a dog box to the front or rear rack........

I used to carry the shitzu around in one when I’d take my sadly departed springers for long walks and let her out for a shorter play.

I used to have a backpack with a mesh compartment (outward hound) but ended up with an open harness (Ruffit Dog Carriers) that meant the dog could look over your shoulder.

I’d probably go with a trailer tbh it’s a weird thing packing them in a carrier to swing them over your shoulder 🙂

I’d also say get some bigger dogs and a pawtrekker scooter and some proper harnesses and just use that to get to work.

That Ruffit Carrier looks pretty sensible - and easier to get your dog installed than the K9 one.

Dunno how available the ruffit is to get now but here’s a video and you can see the funny swing dog over your shoulder move.

Ruffit Video

My dog used to love it but with the other 2 at the time I never had enough hands 🙂

Providing your dog plus all the gear it wants to take is under 6Kg...

Tried putting our Cockapoo in a pannier when he was little, (roll top one left unrolled like a big fabric bucket). Proper freaked him out, whatever solution you hit upon, make sure you train him into it before used in anger.

Took our 10kg Cockapoo for a spin round some of the gravel routes in Aberfoyle using an Alpkit Gourdon 20l backpack. That worked really well as it's fairly slimline so held her steady.

Literally just used a K9 one last night for the first time with our Dachschund. Appearead to love it but then she always looks grumpy?

Did buy a Timbuk2 Muttmover but didn't like it so never used it. Would work better with less lengthy dogs that can sit better or curl up more. Yes it's for sale.

I guess you padded out the bottom to lift the dog up a bit?

I've walked briefly with our older WCS who is 15kg in a Decathlon 20l rucksack.

Bit tricky getting her into it and getting the backpack on, probably better with another person to assist.

She didn't seem to mind too much although I'm not sure how comfortable it was for her.

Yep its a weird one swinging the dog over your shoulder 🙂
and dogs are weird to pack, you've got to fold their back legs up a bit and squeeze them in.

I only ever used proper dog sacs as I' was a bit worried about a failure as they are a funny weight to carry.
