No, nor do you need tax and mot. So long as it's on the drive. You only need mot and insurance to drive it, not park it. Need tax to put it on the street though
If it's on the street (parked) it would still need MOT (if applicable) and insurance - you couldn't get the tax otherwise.....
if its off the highway you can apply for a SORN

Nope, no insurance required.. the obvious downside being that if something happened to it (e.g. it got stolen) you're out in the cold..

My motorbike is SORN'd and stored in the garage.... no MOT needed though I do insure it..... could only go to 3rd party fire & theft .... as I wanted it insured against F&T .... was not able to drop to [i]just[/i] F&T even though I explained it was SORN'd and therefore not going to be ridden on the road... so why would I need 3rd party?
Insurance companies make their own rules up to suit them.
Prozac - a mate just did this and it cost him £40. Up from £25 the previous year but not bad for peace of mind.
Prozac, might be worth checking if thats covered on your home contents insurance, instead of having a seperate policy. .
Some insurers will reduce your insurance fire and theft only (no 3rd party) while off road e.g. classic sports MG used in summer months only.
A quick update.. from early next year if the car is not insured you will have to return the tax disc (even if valid) and declare it as SORN..

Blinking hec, can see their logic, but just seems like another excuse to fine the law abiding in my opinion. Expecting more cloned cars & photocopied tax discs in a city near you...
