rigth here we go....
i got 3points + £60 fine a couple of months back, for using my phone while driving, sent my licence off, but i needed it back in a hurry as i was doin my class 1 so had to ring an chase it up.
licence came back with hand writen points on(not sure if they are usually printed on?)..
anyway passed me class 1 and it was time for my photo card renewal so sent it all off at the same time to get my catagory changed too...
just got my licence back last week and its now clean as a whistle, no points on it, not sure what this means,
do i have points, or do i now not have points....?? 😕

I would say that if you have received points, an insurance company will damn well find out if they need to.

as inept as the DVLA are, they are mostly on the ball with endorsements (perhaps too much so). I would say you DO have points and you DO have to inform your insurance company regardless.

Dont they expire after a fixed period though? Not sure how long it is.

So if you got your new licence after the exp they wouldn't be put on there.

From the OP:

Dont they expire after a fixed period though?

3 (or could be 4) years on your license. Most insurance companies expect you to declare them for 5.

That will be a stupid DVLA co** up I imagine you will still have points on your licence which will be held on the databse and therefore have to tell the insurance company. They are around for 3 years dropping off your licene after 4. It is always a complete school boy scenario in that DVLA always hand write the points on despite how much you think they would be a professional outfit. So yes you have points and you have declare them.

they wont of expired yet as only got them a few months ago...
and yeah im thinking the same that i still have the points on.
but when my boss/insurance company ask to see my licence next its a clean licence, dated after the offence.. spose i need to ring the dvla..

all i was wondering is, was there a problem with the offence ticket when issued, therfore making it void, as police do make mistakes... but then i wont know til i ring the dvla

the ticket was issued, you accepted the FPN, they gave you 3 points. There is nowhere for any error to come to light as its done and dusted.

the DVLA are forever making f--- ups, the usual is to accidently miss off categories youve got (motorcycle, D1 etc) when they re-issue your licence (for change of address, new photo or whatever). When I send mine off I keep photocopies of all parts of it should I need to challenge a screw up.

points are only on your paper license and they will be handwritten.
