Currently looking for a DIY wedding venue in the Devon/Somerset, possibly Cornwall area.

We want to brew our own beer (New Lion in Totnes, a Mr & Mrs)for the occasion, so places that require you to have their own bar are out. We would quite like a mini beer festival, with a food van, nothing flashy (think hay bale seats), just where people can relax and have fun.

Looking for something simple, like a barn, but may be has accommodation on site.

Everywhere that seems to do weddings near us (Blackdown Hills) either requires you to have their own bar, or prices are astronomical!

Trying to do this on a budget. Any recommendations for venues?

My sister has an awesome wedding in Polhawn Fort a few years ago.

Probably not cheap but it was cheaper than trying to hire a field, marquee and tepees to stay in apparently.

Friendly farmer or big campsite with extra fields and a big tent. Friend of mine rents out circus style tents. They look really cool, Devon based too.  http://bigtopmania.co.uk

Porth en alls, Prussia Cove. Ask for Peter. Don't take any notice of trip advisor, go and have a look.

Good enough for the Backshall's (Apparently)

Does also have camping if that is what your guests would like.

Friends of ours used this, in Wells:

It's much nicer than in the photos - there's a lake with a rope driven raft to get across - the kids loved that.

We got married here 13 years ago.

Farm converted to holiday accommodation. Really nice place in NW Devon with some small cottages, loads of outdoor space, and a license for weddings. As far as I remember, they let you have to run of the place for the weekend and do as you please for food, drink etc. They do also help with caterers or pubs that will come and set a pop-up bar if you need that.

it was a really nice venue.

Porth en alls! You can even have a marquee on the lawn. I used to do quite a few weddings down there when I worked in the marquee industry. Did one down there that must have been the most expensive tent per Sq m once kitted out. Monster kit carry.

You need a friend with a farm and a date that fits the farming calendar. Marquee company should be able to line a barn at a reasonable price if you don't want to see steel,  broken boards and body fluids.

Marquees are a pretty expensive option unless you already own the site, the power, the furniture, the electrics, the catering kit, in fact pretty much everything bar the tent and are prepared to go basic. Then they are just pricey.

Try village halls.

we tied the knot here

http://www.knowlemanor.co.uk/

very relaxed operation with loads of bedrooms on site which we asked our guests to contribute to which helped out financially.

We had arranged a marque on the lawn, our own catererer and music and stocked the bars ourself.

wasnt cheap but the DIY element made it considerably cheaper than all the other rip offs we looked at.  At the time they didn't have a marriage licence but it didnt matter for us as we had a humanist ceremony.

Sherborne - Stockbridge Farm barn.

Lovely spot, old timber barn still part of a working farm.

I used to walk my dog through Porth en Alls when I was a kid - it’s a stunning spot.
