Whats the favoured STW teabag-tearing gizmo for loose leaf tea? I've always just torn the teabags open by hand but presumably theres something made by Gaggia or Dualit or Smeg (or Tassimo) that can tear the bags open in a measurably more expensive way.

Loose leaf is generaly made from younger leaves, which don't just taste better, but have had less time to accumulate heavy metals and fluoride from the soil/air, so less toxic too.

Real men (and women) drink Yorkshire Gold. If looking for the loose leaf variety, I'm sure that the guys at Singletrack will concur that the tea shop in the indoor market in Todmorden has a wide choice of excellent varieties. The Russian caravan will have you beating off bandits and facing down recalcitrant Yaks in no time.

Supermarket own-brands? Not likely (though I'll drink the M&S stuff at a pinch if I've already been through the compost heap to extract the old Yorkshire bags..)

That said that there Ringtons Gold linked to above looks like it could be a mighty fine cup of char. From what they say on the site, the only way the production process could be improved would be if each teabag was individually rolled on the inner thighs of a lusty virgin. Will definitely be placing my order and taking my chance 🙂

Something about the plant makes it absorb metals and fluoride aparently, the older the leaves, the more highly concentrated the bad stuff is. But big old leaves are cheep an therefore get used in teabags. Looseleaf and more expensive teas use younger leaves with less of the bad stuff.

2 pints (4 mugs) of cheep tea = aprox 100% of the Fluoride RDA, but add on toothpaste and drinking water (or just more tea) and it could be much higher, IIRC the max you should have is about 2x the RDA.

Yorkshire tea in a Dunoon Glencoe or Cotswold fine bone china bike mug; large and extra large.

Twinnings Liquorice tea is also rather pleasant but an acquired taste.

2 bags of D J Miles. Bags instructed to remain in for the duration, ie not just the brewing, but also the supping. Proper brew.

Good to see some love for Ringtons tea. It is far superior to any of the other muck that's out there. Not that I'm biased...

Now we're talking. That is a proper cup of tea. Their tea bags are only marginally less tasty that the loose leaf stuff too. Leaves at home in the morning, then a convenient bag for the mid morning cuppa.

Tea bags contain dross and dust that's not fit to drink, yep....i'm a self appointed tea snob wi nae shame.

You need a Bodum tea press to do it justice and freshly boiled water, not water thats previously been through the boil, i use a 1litre teapot from which i get two large cups of tea and as for tea there's not much to beat Brodies English breakfast mixed with a bit of Assam, i've found my sweet spot ratio of 75% english breakfast to 25% assam.

Mix the tea and store in a sealed jar, i use a 15ml energy powder spoon filled to the top for each pot and i drink my tea black/without milk.

Just in fae work so here's one i've prepared....Ahhhhhhh and relax.

I dunno how folk can drink so called tea like tetleys or suchlike, it's not tea, more like flavoured water.

I had a Bodum tea press once, biggest pile of shite ever. It was in the charity shop very soon after purchasing it. Such a disappointment as most of their stuff is pretty functional and well designed
A decent teapot beats it hands down.
