Just had a new washing machine fitted and a bit disappointed to find it was the display machine they have fitted

OK with that but it has some notable scratches on the front of the machine.

What would be a reasonable discount to expect - cost £570.

Send it back and go to a shop-soiled outlet. They shouldnt be sending out display ones without telling you.

Thanks - yes perhaps I should be more miffed that it was the display model as I wasn't expecting that.

Not keen on just sending it back as that leaves me without again for a period and that is a pain.

I could just say replace with a new one please - but equally happy with a discount.

I chose a local specialist with a very good local reputation as they offered a free installation and take away albeit paying RRP or very close to it.

I'd say at least a hundred quid myself. We once bought a display cooker from comet that was about 400 new. They said we could have it so I suggested 150 quid off and I'd wheel it out there and then, manager came over, said hundred as long as we took it right now. Suited me. It's still going strong about 5 years later and you'd never be able to see the in shop scratches it had on it now.

Not doing too well so far.

Shop have told me it was not the display model but so far have only offered me £30 which is neither here nor there against an outlay of nearly £600.

Sounds about the norm. I was chatting to a chap in one of the big chains at the weekend and he said they only do 5-10% off ex display.

If that is the case then I will simply ask them to supply a new model as I did not knowingly buy or ask to buy a display model. Although they are saying it is not the display model - but without going to the shop again I can't say whether I believe them or not.

If they won't play, ring up and demand a replacement, inconvenient or not. Charge them for a collect/deliver laundry service too! 🙂

Were you home when they installed it BTW?

Yeah I was at home. Also tipped the guys £20!

I don't think they are a bad shop - as I said local and with a good reputation.

When I spoke them earlier I think they seem OK with providing a replacement but it will be interesting to see what the lead times are on re-stocking etc.

5-10% is the average I thought on appliances. It dosent matter the fact that it was a display model or not, it still has aesthetic damage to it and I cant understand why they would try and send you that, 'hoping' you wouldnt notice? (if they knew about it)

just got 10% off an ex-display hoover (even though they had just taken it out the box and put it on the shelf this afternoon)

Thanks - sounds like the consensus is 5-10% so perhaps the shop were not being completely unreasonable with their offer of £30.

Still sounds very low to me - I know I am not very price sensitive - but I would expect many people to say no - for the sake of £30 just replace the machine with one in perfect cosmetic condition?

I would be wanting a hell of a lot more off it than that. 25% minimum. I've haggled as much as that off new stuff before.

25%, you have to be joking. Its cosmetic, it makes no difference to perfromance and its not something you look at for hours each day.

As above, 10% is usually the most they'll take off.

flatback - its a Siemens free standing if that make any difference???

The shop have said it is new and not the one that was on display - but I am not 100% sure. The top had clearly been exposed to dust and dirt etc.

I am sort of with Smee and really would be looking for minimum £100 off otherwise just give me a new machine and I will happily pay top whack

Surely if it was new it would have been taken out of its packaging (whilst you were there).I had a company sell me an ex display cooker once and I rejected it as all the customers in the shop had messed about with it. If you have paid for a new machine you should have got a new machine, If you are not happy with discount offered tell them to get you a new machine.Do not accept their crap

gjp just wondering as some intergrated come without packing on the tops as not visible, and wondered the make as at least 7 manufacture's have gone through recently and lots of old stock floating about, siemens are still in business so it should not be that
wonder if it was careless instalation guys who scratched it

OK just spoken to the shop and the most they would go to in terms of a discount is £50 so it looks like a new machine will be on its way. I would have accepted £75.

They did say if I wanted a new machine then I shouldn't use the one they have fitted as it then wouldn't be accepted back by Siemens. To which my reply was then simply refund me the full £570 and come and collect it. They softened their tone a little then.

So looks like those who said 5-10% were pretty spot on. Thanks Guys.
