No, its not a rant about diesel cars in general.

I've spilt some (quite a lot actually) diesel in the back of my car.
It stinks.
I ripped out the rear carpet and chucked it.
I used a special fuel absorbent powder to clean most of it up.
I've wiped the area down with kitchen cleaner and hot water.

It still stinks.

Any top tips for cleansing the diesel smell from my car?
Or should I just scrap it and buy a new car? 😆

I wish you the best of luck, I spilt some on a bundle of log nets a few years ago. They've been stored outside since and still stink.

Wipe the surfaces with vegetable oil to thin out the residue then use a detergent solution and a wet and dry vac

We either scrap them, completely gut them, throw away the interior, jet wash them then stick a few square meters of fresh interior foam matting down.

Depends what else they have planned for them.

Wet clean with a solvent to get rid of the residual diesel.

Wipe EVERYTHING with lots of baby wipes. They are less than £1 a pack for the cheap ones which are what you want.

Find some air freshener, deodorant, anything, that you prefer the smell of and spray the life out of it.

You can shift the smell but as mentioned earlier, torching it moves the problem onto the insurance company

Some good suggestions there, some less helpful than others 😆

The fuel is all soaked up now, just there must be traces of it left stinking the car out.

Think I'll gut the back of the car and clean it properly this weekend.

Sprinkle coffee beans in there. Gets rid of most nasty aromas.

We have degreaser at work , liquid form , 25Ltr drums .
Its left over from plant commisioning to remove red dye penetrant
If you are in Hampshire I can get you a few ltrs no bother .

Then use 1001 on anyhting cloth thats left after that.

Follwed by Fabreeze or OUst , but I reckon it will there for ever . Opening up the car on a hot sunny afternoon will be a gag fest.

Go and pick up some old ropes from your local marina skip to keep in your boot too. Your car will just smell like an old boat. Tell anyone you give a lift to that you've got a yacht.

It handles like a boat, so that's not such a bad idea. thanks!
