Not the emotional sort, the physical sort that happens from falling off/into/through things on bikes.
Things like snapping Tendons & broken bones tend to have the same effect on people, but what about fractures/chips/tears all that stuff?
How does my brain figure out how much pain to relay, influencing whether I go to the bloody hospital or not?
I very ignorantly assume that if I'm not howling in agony, i'm just about alright. Broken metatarsils and the like.
I'd say I have a "high-pain-threshold" but I don't much believe in that and am settling on "an idiot". Do people go t'doctors every time they're sore?
I bust my little finger three weeks ago surfing, used some tape to get it back into shape then taped it to the other finger, so I could finish my weekend.
Its still hurting, I know I should go and see a Doc, but it just does not hurt enough to go ๐
Now if it comes to bits that are hanging off, that need stiching, after learning my lesson of trying to stich myself back together in the past, I am a good boy now and you will find me sat in line at A&E

No injury or pain has the same effect on everyone, it's varies because of many different reasons including culture and race.

Some people do yes but occasional the sore arm they've had for weeks has fracture.
General rule I tell my students is, if they have to pause before giving you a pain score out of 10 and they say 10, it's not a 10. Anyone who is in 10 you can tell and they struggle to tell you.
Injuries so far for me have have been mostly bearable but toothache, even relatively mild, is one I find really hard to manage.

There was a guy admitted to ICCU and had me ousted from my private room due to a suspected infection risk, it turned out after a day that he had washed the sodium from his body, had a massive fit, and ended up with compartment syndrome. He always used to answer the above question with "eleven, ELEVEN,OWWW"
This pleased me as he stole my room.
I kept myself at a conservative three by being kept off my face on wonderful drugs.
Re. Pedal Pins In Shins-
If the flesh has a flap, stitches.
I have the willies just thinking about that day.
I didn't get stitches.
I was hit from behind while out on my bike 10 days ago .Just doing a wee10mile loop after kids had gone to bed ,at dusk, when a car ran into me@60mph .I was catapaulted over the bars, bounced on me head ont road and landed on me back on the verge .I was very lucky as i suffered a concussion(dont remember accident)fractured shoulder, right collarbone, heavy bruising to chest, bum, lower right leg and shoulders....released from hosp after 20 hours and signed off by docs for 3 weeks....lots of painkillers but easing off now...only pain is in shoulders and collarbone now, nearly crying when i cough or sneeze...as above lots of painkillers to start but now just a few,and pain at about 4....someone was watching over me ๐
Bloody hell. Heal well!
Holy shit, get well soon you lucky fellow!
I have never broken a bone so don't know how it feels, but I cannot stand pain at the dentist, it makes me cry when I have my teeth cleaned when it catches on my gums and it really hurts and I dread it.
I have given birth to 3 massive babies with only gas and air as pain relief, but that is nothing compared to the pain of having my teeth done. ๐ฅ
So each to their own, we all experience different pain in different ways.

The problem with that is longer term damage/disfigurement. I had a wee fall at Laggan a few years back, broke my little finger and went off climbing in Torridon for the rest of the weekend. After a week or so I went to the GP and by then it was too late to set it properly, the joint had fused and I now have a finger joint that doesn't work at all.
My 4 year old jumped on me and landed knees first on my left nut.
I passed out.
Good old adrenalin can cut in after injury during sports. I can remember dislocating a finger on a night lap at MM once; got back on the bike after an off and wondered what was obstructing my finger on the bars only to look down and see two-thirds of the finger at right angles to the rest ๐ฏ so I just put it back into place and finished the lap. I managed one more lap before it started to throb and make me queasy.
Worst pain for me was gall stones. Now, that was clothes-drenched-in-cold-sweat-curled-up-in-a-ball-throwing-up pain ๐ฅ
At least Matron was gentle with my willy.
My hands go weak trying to type the details of exactly what happe.....
cfinnimore - did that injury involve the word "degloved"?
