This might be a bit niche (even for STW) but does anyone here have any experience with the Delta deck work platforms?

https://www.popupproducts.co.uk/product/deltadeck/

I’ve got a lot of work to do in our new (ish) old house which mostly has 9 foot ceilings. After starting on the 1st room I’m feeling a bit exposed on my existing hop up platform when it’s tall enough (Werner pro adjustable job, set about 750mm platform height) for me to comfortably work at that level. So was looking for something that makes it less likely I’m going to end up taking a trip to A&E.

The delta deck looked like it might work but it’s not cheap so as usual I thought I’d see if the hive mind can comment on how good these are, or recommend a good alternative., before I jump in

I sometimes have to use them at work and they are ok but the ones we have aren't as big as you think so you might have jump up and down a few times if say for instance your painting or doing plaster. I'd mark up the deck size on a floor somewhere and see what you think. They are also still take up a bit of space once your done so worth thinking of where you'll store it when not in use

If you've any specific questions fire away

I think I’m ok with the size of this. I guess the next “best” alternative I’ve found so far would be a mini scaffold tower but I think they are going to be tricky to move around inside, might not fit into some spaces and might be a stretch to cart about in the estate.

The platform I have at the moment is only 120 x 35 cm and it’s not the end of the world moving it around while I’m painting. Just feels quite wobbly side to side and there isn’t anything to grab hold of to support yourself if your coming down next to a wall with wet paint on it.

@daviek are the railings on the dealt deck solid enough to use as hand holds for climbing up/down from the platform? How stable do they feel when set up at full height?

They feel fine to me and the legs should have steps built in so you don't have to haul yourself up onto it.

They're very stable if you're not doing anything silly 🙂

I've not seen any but I think you can get out riggers for them if you want to be extra stable

Decks like these exist really for a sort of edge case in work settings as a risk assessment will typically say anything over 2ft high needs to have a hand rail if you're working for an extended period of time - your comfortable platform height 6" higher than that. You'll see from your link that all their 'sellers' are really hire companies because in most domestic and commercial settings theres hardly a reason for owning one. They're bulky items to store, I doubt you'd want to keep it once your work on the house is done and you might find it difficult to sell on afterwards

I really like the adjustable Werner platform you have, nbut if theyre set to the higher settings you can perhaps feel a bit unsteady getting down from them if you have your hands full. So what I sometimes do is sit a regular hop up (which are usually about 450-500mm tall) next to it to give an easier step up and down.

The Werner 'Odd Job' hop up gives a nice big square platform compared to normal hop ups and is a really good companion to the adjustable height one (I sometimes sit on it and use the adjustable as a table for fiddly work) and gives a nice big and very stable step up and down. I wish they did a mashup of the two really.

Another option that would probably be still be cheaper than the Deltadeck and give you more flexibly would be a second adjustable Werner and just sit them side by side to give you more platform to stand on - or even span between them with staging boards. You can buy staging boards with handrails.

You could also maybe look at Platform Step Ladders with handrails - again a bit niche and a bit difficult to sell afterwards

I think in our case that probably means a solid 5-10 years worth of use. The whole house really needs to be properly stripped back to brick in most of the rooms so it’s going to keep me busy for a while yet.

I have been doing something similar to your suggestion for an intermediate step to make getting on and off the higher platform a bit easier.

Still just feels a bit too wobbly for my brain to think it’s safe (being on carpet probably doesn’t help). Might see if I can pick something up second hand rather than get a new one.

10+ years ago we bought one of these second hand off eBay and it is still in v good condition. It is stored in a shed when not in use.

We have used it both internally and externally for decorative/maintenance work as well as a few gardening jobs. The wheels make it v easy to use.

BPS Premium Plus DIY Scaffold Tower

Ours is not that tall!

I have a delta deck. Do I use it? Sometimes. If it broke or was stolen would I replace it? Probably not.
it’s great when you’re using it, but it is big and bulky. It’s quick to set up, but that’s just once you’ve dragged out, into the house, watched you don’t catch a door frame etc etc. then it’s quick to put up, but unless I’m doing a big job I can’t be arsed.

If you are North West based you can borrow this one, see how you get on with it.

Apologies, I somehow missed the 750mm platform height 🙈

I've not used a platform like that but moving it around doesn't look easy.

What about 2 of the Werner platforms with short (1.8m) planks between? Then you end up with a 1.2m x 1.8m working platform . Can always put a sheet of ply cut to size on top of the planks if they are springy. Would also only need 3 planks then.

Or builders trestles and planks. You can get a handrail of sorts for them too.

In either situation use a step ladder to get on and off much easier than a smaller platform.
