Marmite. Hardwearing, smells better than Cuprinol, and the local cats will keep your patio constantly licked clean.

(-:

In seriousness, I'm not sure what the objection is to Cuprinol. I'd perhaps have asked the guy slagging it off to qualify that stance.

I used cuprinol decking oil after cleaning and scrubbbing the thing down with several goes over it. I got the oil cheap enough and it came up well. I am sure there are probably better products used by those in the know but it did me ok.

Used a light oak colour and it took two coats for the colour to come through after the first coat soaked in well and dried

<slight hijack> Has anybody found something that lasts more than one season?

Well was in my local "Home Bargains" on the retail park.

Got Ronseal light oak decking stain for £8.99.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Last time I was in B&Q some bloke asked me if I wanted decking, fortunately I got the first punch in.

To be fair, when my wife suggested we needed our decking and fencing done she did it herself. Good lass. [img] [/img]

"decking treatment ....... whats best?("
set light to it, that will get rid of the rats that live under it.

I see that the people that used to make Izal medicated arsewipe now make Cuprinol.

Cougar and Bear, that's so not fair. I'd just logged on chortling with glee at the prospect of being the first to get in with the old smack to the face joke and you both beat me to it.

I bought a house a couple of years ago with a large decking area that was looking a bit tired.
I painted it with Cuprinol Decking Stain, I think I went through 4 tubs @ £30 each.
It looked good until after the winter when the stain (it was more like paint) started to flake off, and after 8 months it needed doing again.
The next time I bought Cuprinol Ducksback Shed/Fence Paint as it was a 3rd the price, still looks good for a few months and comes off every winter.

I am now in the position where I need to treat another currently unstained deck, but for the reasons highlighted above I don't want to use the same Cuprinol Decking Stain, I did think a coloured oil might be better but don't want to be in the same position after the winter.

I am open to suggestions.
