Bose quiet comfort 15 seem to get good reviews, quite pricey though any other suggestions?

Get a pair of the new EarPods. £25, sorted. They don't block all background noise, like full in-ear monitors, but they are very comfortable, they sound excellent, and for use with an iPad, I reckon they're all you need. I've been using mine extensively since I got my new iPhone but with my iPod Classic, and I was wearing them all round Bath today, and they're great.

I use Soundmagic PL30s. Great fit to my ear with the small buds and are really robust with an okay sound.

Paid about 20 quid from amazon so not too pricey!

They will be for use on trains / planes so fancy the noise cancelling versions. Been a long time since I bought any, is there a shop you can try most of them out? pc world?

If you're after headphones as opposed to in ear then most places have some to try but reading the reviews the Bose ones or Dr Dre beats ones get good reviews.

I personally have a set from Brookstones out here in the US and find them nearly as good as the Bose ones but a quarter of the price!

Little bit on the pricier side, but B&W p3s are amazing - the sound from such a small pair of headphones is superb. You wouldn't be disappointed!

I have noise cancelling ones from Sennheiser which I use on long haul flights, they are fabulous. Sound is much clearer and they reduce stress as I can have volume lower. They are very good for relaxing with no music playing as they cut out noise.

I am sure other brands like Bose would be good, mine aren't fashion items (ie they look a bit dodgy) as they are folding ones with aircraft plus adapters.

They cost £180 so not cheap.

I'm using a pair Klipsch Image One headphones with my iPad. They do let a bit of noise in but they are very very good.

I use these on long haul;

Sounds very good, but not as good as "real" headphones. Noise cancelling is as effective as the Bose, and the sound quality is as good as the Bose. Cheaper, which won it for me.

If you like your bass then go for beats. if you like music then go for somthing else (doesn't matter what but anything else!)

Maybe have a look here for some advice:

If you're spending £100+ then I'd at least think about getting a portable headphone amp as well.

If you want to be a sucked in mug and look like a complete tool, buy yourself a pair of Beats headphones... Seriously, who doesn't think that people who wear those look like knobs?

If you like your music to sound how it should do, buy some Shures. I've just bought some SE215's. I think they sound great for the 100 quid they cost me. They're my second set of Shure headphones. My old ones lasted me 6 years.

I've got the SE215's as well, and would second them, as udder sez. If you want them for travelling, and need the background noise blocked out then the Shures, with triple-flange eartips are first class. I regularly use mine for hearing protection when running noisy machinery at work, they give -26dB of attenuation with the triple-flange tips. One neat thing about them is their very low profile in use. Highly recommended.
