Hi all,

Would like to get the gf a day out type experience for Christmas, just to do something a bit different and not the standard candles/perfume as a gift. Ideally that we can both do, somewhere vaguely near Scotland. And something that will be bearable in January/February..

Was keen for zorbing, but the places don't open until April
Bunjee jumping/sky diving is too expensive
She skis a lot so not going to take her to X-Scape. Same for horse-ridng and sailing.

Would go go-karting/paint-balling, but it might be a bit obvious they're more for me 😛

Budget £60ish, more if it's for both of us.

Ta, Duane!

Yeah, but she's lived in Whistler and the French Alps so don't think the Highlands will be that "special" to her 😛

White water rafting on the Tay operates year round. More than a decade since I did it though, so I can't comment on operators.

I can - http://www.dunollyadventures.co.uk/ for Tay - but that is tame really.
For proper fun, see what Splash are upto http://rafting.co.uk/ - if they are running the Orchy or Tummel, that is much better.

edit-
Linn of Tummel is fun...

Try a 'Highland winter' - way below zero, heavy rain (not snow) and wind. That is one to remember compare to all your blue-sky / white puffy snow days that everyone else offers you... 8)

Rafting on the Findhorn is epic. Now live in the French Alps and local rivers are very, very tame by comparison!

Get a bluebird ski day in Scotland and its a worthwhile experience 2 hours from your door. Course, it could well be as Matt describes...

I got my wife an experience here last year. Won me big brownie points.

(We went for 'meet the birds', best £60 ever)

Cheers all.

She mentioned last night (not dropping a hint) that she'd love to do a wine tasting class, so thinking that might be a good idea.

Anyone done one in Edinburgh? These look OK, a couple sessions would be nice but guessing the price will just go up..

For a bit more cash you could do a cook school such as at Martin Wishart http://www.cookschool.co.uk/ which involves the cooking and eating with wine. It was really relaxed and great when the weather is horrible outside. 10/10

Landrover Safari? http://www.highlandsafaris.net/

We did this earlier this month and it was brilliant. Highly recommended.
