I'm pretty much ambivalent to this whole thing, i just can't wrap my head round why he's come back himself, he's given up all his ventures and so on, so losing money, and it's not like he left politics for a year or so, it's been 7 years, i actually think he believes he can do some good, which may well be more worrying!

Has any party, ever, called a GE when they’re on their knees? Nope, not how it works.

Er, yes.

Ted Heath when he couldn't govern effectively due to crippling strike action and Harold Wilson when he had an unworkable 4 seat majority, for example.

At least he might bring some humour to PMQs

Is he standing for election?

I think he’ll be seen as competent, and given the choice of voting for him Vs a ghastly labour leftie the Tory faithful might just turn out enough to swing it. Terrifying.

I've been worried for ages now that between now and the next election Labour would do something stupid and lose it, allowing this lot to stay in power somehow. Now I'm worried that Cameron will give the Tories a small smear of respectability, the press will get behind him and Labour won't have any personality that can cut through it all to deliver the win we so desperately need.

Cameron's return could easily spell the end of Sunak and deliver the another term at the helm. It's still a long way to go but that is the possibility we are staring at right now.

Don’t you have to be an MP to ask questions at PMQs?

Given the evolution of the system I wouldnt be surprised if there isnt actually anything saying that vs just long standing convention and the cops getting shouty at people trying to walk in.
Although that said if anyone was going to be specifically blocked it would be a member of the house of lords.

I know what you mean. Having said that he is "only" the foreign secretary. Hell, even if he was PM though, there are a lot of people financially hurting out there and a lot more will be experiencing financial troubles as their current fixed rate mortgages expire. Add in a general feeling of disbelief in how dysfunctional the Tory party is even amongst many of its usual voters.

Cameron will be old news within days. People are used to the incredible now. The sad fact is that most people dont care what our foreign policy is and who is responsible for it, particularly when they have far more pressing worries. A lot of people dont like Cameron either. I think overall his effect is null. He brings enough bad to counter any perceived good.

As long as Labour dont implode I think the "worst" we can expect is a Lib/Lab coalition which as a Labour voter, id still be perfectly happy with to be honest.

You might have something there. That would properly have Johnson spitting out his chips.

I think so? so we now have a 'cabinate minister without any accountabillity? and a 'lord', none the less.

Presumably he won't be allowed to vote in the commons?

What could possibly go wrong?

What does he get?   You mean other that a Peerage and a slice of Sunaks Exit funds and possibly even another term as PM as "...the savior of modern Conservatism" or New Conservatives or whatever they restart with.

Re PMQ's isnt it correct that as a member the House of Lords / non standing MP he's not allowed to be questioned directly by the opposition?

There's got to be a fair few skeletons in that lot.

Much as I hate him, this isn’t a novel or particularly uncommon thing. He can be questioned in the Lords, he'll have a sacrificial deputy for the Commons - much the same as trying to hold Suella to account.

As morecash says this isn't a new thing, Mandelson was taken on under the same conditions. There has never been a requirement for cabinet members to be sitting MPs.

Ffs.. I’ve tried to reply twice and this useless forum just keeps refreshing the page midway through typing

I can’t remember any racist policies, however perhaps I’m viewing him with rose tinted glasses, longing for the good old days when the primary concern of a Tory was to get rich on the back of the toil of others, rather incite far right nazis to riot on the streets

Lessor degree than the recent folk to be fair.  More racist as a byproduct from not caring than deliberately racist 'cos they want to be

I call comparing immigrants with insects racist. It's Nazi style rhetoric.

If Suella Braverman made similar comments she would rightly be strongly condemned for it.

Cameron's slick old Etonian presentation skills doesn't cut it with me. He is a racist.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't, it fits the Tory narrative. Such a shame that Freedland sacked off Steve Bell, the best cartoonist of his generation, with his hilarious portraits of the man without a single bone in his head.

in that case he’s also disabilist, ageist, and povertyist (is that a word), because I doubt he cares about any of those either!

im not convinced he’s as racist in the same mound as the new breed, although I’m sure his policies affected minorities more than others, but as you point out, more as a byproduct than by racist intention

he is however undoubtedly a Tory xxxx, so feel free to call him what you want!

At the time, with all that was going on with his son who has since passed away, he was quite an advocate for disabled people, their families and the NHS.

If you overlook the real effects of austerity, obviously
