MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I'm looking for something that will create a network/tree diagram, basically showing the spread in uses of products over time. I'm aiming for something to generate this that will play nicely with a locked down corporate environment. Nodexl looked promising when I tried it at home but can't be installed at work without a director signing it off in blood. Any other suggestions?
(Imagine your typical family tree diagram as an example of what I'm after, if it can do that its all good)
Have you tried excel?
The smart art tool does basic tree charts
Yeah Smart Art is an option but it'll take a fair bit of VBA hacking to make it do the right thing - was hoping for something that took all that work away from me!
I don't think this is exactly what you're after, but this is what I use for drawing graphs

yEd will probably do what you want. not sure if it will play with corporate iT rules, but its might...
D3.js is amazing at this stuff if you are a developer. Can create some pretty complex stuff that can then just be displayed on a webpage. Think there's libraries built on top to make stuff easier too.
I use lucidchart on google apps. It's free up to a point but allows some complex diagrams to be produced.
Can you just draw it in Illustrator or similar?
StarUML? I got recommended it by a course tutor last week, and it will do class diagrams quite nicely.
I've been stuck attempting to create decision trees, this all looks interesting. Thanks.
aP, dot (see above) is great for scripting. I have used it to visualise decision trees myself.
Bear in mind though that even small trees have a lot of leaf nodes and any PDF viewer starts chugging along trying to visualise it so its only really useful for testing.
