Morning all,

Bike 2 Work voucher has arrived for £1000, so its time for a new road bike for the commute, some sportivey stuff, some light racing *.

Its done through Halfords. I've rang some of the independent dealers on the list as I'd seen some nice bikes, but they all to a man wanted the 10% added on to the bill- which I can understand.

So I'm thinking: get another Boardman? I've had Boardman road bikes before and been very pleased with them.

If you had to choose between:

1) http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_992004_langId_-1_categoryId_165710

and

2) http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_789235_langId_-1_categoryId_289005#tab2

...what way would you jump?

My thoughts are:
1)is not the most aesthetically pleasing frame out there
2)is better specced overall

BTW: I was denied this in a medium:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_777709_langId_-1_categoryId_289005

....as it exceeded the £1000 limit. But now think I could have snagged it with a BC discount, or web discount.

cheers all-

Had the team carbon for a couple years. Outstanding bike.

I would have grabbed the 2011/12/13 TC in a heartbeat PB. New frame is totally different.

I've got the alloy one. Great bike and pretty forgiving a ride. However, if you really want Carbon you'll spend more than £200 upgrading when the inevitable happens.

I would go for the ally one too, just for the wheels compared to the carbon one. The cup and cone hubs are heavy lumps..

I had the Carbon one from about three years ago (before 10 speed). It was used mainly for a twice a day 20km (each way) commute mostly. Light, stiff and comfortable (once you'd changed the saddle). The wheels were a real low point so I swapped them out for some nice Fulcrums and it really gave the bike a bit of a kick.

Rode the Dartmoor 100 on it and the Wiggle Wye Valley Warrior 100 last year (km) and no drama. New ones look similar, I'm not much of a roadie so I wouldn't know what to look for, but mine was a good buy for a grand.

Halfords were useless tho. Tried to sell me an XL. I'm 5ft11 😉
