I mentioned on the Bowie RIP thread that I'd been playing some of his stuff just a couple of days beforehand and wondering what would be said about him after he died. Playing more of his stuff since led me to All the Young Dudes and hence back to Mott the Hoople - a band I'd been a big fan of for a while. I've been playing some of their stuff for the past few days and now I've just read that Dale Griffin, their drummer passed away yesterday.

Any requests for who I should now add to my playlist? 😯

bono

I was trying to imagine how the world will react to his death the other day. I rather hope for his sake that he's got a good few years to work on becoming a national treasure rather than just a sanctimonious git.

Bono's death, probably the only thing that could unite the world.

Anyway back to Dale, I understand he had been ill for some time, but still a sad loss.
Often thought Mott are very underrated for the own work. Plus Dale went on to work with a lot of bands that were part my drunken youth

Bobo, always amazes me he is feted as such a suporter of causes when he's avoided staggering amounts of tax

Calling Bono sanctimonious etc is just someone lazy unthinkingly following the herd in repeating something that a mediocre stand up said ten years ago. None of you have done a tenth of arse-getting-up-off and doing something for other people.

(I got free tickets to see U2 a couple of years ago. It was like seeing a pub band so we sat in the stadium's seats and had a few beers. I wouldn't have paid for tickets).

Well, worked with Buffin in 1980 at the BBC Maida Vale studio for the JP show.
Unassuming and diplomatic producer with a nice light touch - great results.

Sad to see him go.
