Has anyone been to Dahab? I am thinking of a mid-winter trip out there for a windsurfing and diving.
Usually go to the Canaries but thought I would try something different.

Yup, been loads, it's busy full of Russians and petit Russian girls, but it's a great aground location. Sail out back into the freestyle area and watch to locals pull endless flakkas..

Hired Gear when we get there, stayed in the Marriott 5*.

Cheap, good vibe, friendly.

Me and the Mrs went out there 2 years ago xmas time. We spent the week under the water rather than on it.
Weather was really good and sunny.
We stayed at the tropitel dahab oasis. Slightly out from the main town but cheap and all inclusive and right on the beach with a pontoon for swimming off of rather than abuse the coral.
Diving was excellent. Do the blue hole dive if you can. Loads of vis, fishys and general pretties. Eel garden is also a good one....big old sand bank with hundreds of foot long shoelace thickness eels standing up like seaweed!
Would definitely go back again.

I've been there a few times but a few years ago. I presume it has gotten a bit more built up since then as it was heading that way. The diving was fantastic, loads of life just metres from the shore. It's really relaxing diving, too, always clear and usually calm. No need for a boat, just walk in, unless you want to get a bit further up the shore for more unspoilt reefs. Can't really comment on the windsurfing. I'd have thought it would be a bit calm to interesting but there are plenty of them there.

Winds really good there, wake up, have breakie, and around 12ish it starts to blow 30knts, so sails around 3.5 - 5mtrs and 75ltr boards all you need. Big kit available too, 130ltr boards and 7mtr sails for the very few days it blows 15knts.

It can get crowded but most folk just clear out of your way, in the Bay and launch area is the most busy part, launching and recovery can get frantic but once out into Baby Bay and beyond into the open Red Sea on a wave board it's quite amazing and hardly anyone goes out there. We have to take a small radio if you go out that far just in case but at least they still let you out there.

Never dived, thou know its massively popular.

Always something going on and lots of room on the beach for family to enjoy family stuff.

But it gets crowded, as said.

My perspectives maybe a bit different, cos I was backpacking round Egypt on my own, but Dahab was a wonderful, relaxed, heavenly oasis. Fabulous resort for red sea, the only one id consider revisiting.

Had a mate pay a visit there a while back, he ended up staying for a year or so. Spoke very highly of the place.

Best diving I've experienced, Ive also been to sharm which was equally good diving but not so many wind/kite surfers.
