Anyone know a good place to start this loop? Combe Down Tunnels look great.

You can start at Linear Park. If you need directions pop down to Avon Valley Cyclery under the station, in the centre of town, and they'll be more than happy to send you the right way.

Worth pointing out, just in case you missed it, the route isn't open yet - there's a big event opening do-dah on the 6th April.

Map's on the website: http://www.twotunnels.org.uk/map.html .

Hi Wordnumb,

fancy having a look at this after the opening date? after seeing the thread, I'm trying to find other routes around it on the Sustrans website.

Yeah, sure. Easy enough to turn off the Bristol to Bath > two tunnels > then find some other interesting stuff out that way.

Good to hear about the tunnels - I lived in Combe Down and after being closed and the tracks taken up they weren't actually blocked until the early 70s and my mates and I used to go through them with torches. If you stopped in the middle of the long one and turned everything off you could just see light both ways. We took bikes through once or twice, but it was a case of pushing them on the ballast fast enough to make some light from the dyno hubs.

Wouldn't be hard to work it into a loop including Pipehouse Lane.

He he, don't even think about coming up the Pipeline! Going down it can be lots of fun, with decent suspension. 😀

Had a ride through the tunnels today, darker then expected even with the lighting. Plenty of people enjoying the route. My 23 mile loop started at bradford on avon along the canal to dundas aqueduct then loop around to midford, through the tunnels to bath and then back along the canal via bathampton. Checked out a nice DH track near dundas which was good fun even though i broke 2 spokes on my rear wheel! 🙄
