Ive got some Sennheiser CX300s that I like, but the ear rubber's dont keep the phones secure for long enough.

Has anyone had a go at using a DIY mouldable ear plug mated to their naked phones to make some custom fit phones?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACULIFE-PRO-FIT-CUSTOM-MOULDED-EAR-PLUGS-29-DECIBEL-NRR-UK-SAME-DAY-DESPATCH-/150718495812?pt=UK_Health_HealthCare_RL&hash=item231785bc44#ht_1214wt_1185

bit like this howto:

I can't use the in ear phones due to ear surgery, I was advised to use these http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-and-personal-audio/headphones-and-headsets/audio-and-mobile-headphones/bose-ie2-headphones/. They are really comfy and stay put.

And unfortunately Bose are on my list of people I'll never buy from. List also includes Jungle/Santa Cruz.

Cant stand commercial rackets 🙂

How would you keep the earplugs on the 'phones? You'd rip them straight out immediately I'd say. And presumably need to cut a hole through them to allow the sound through which will almost certainly be closed up again when you push the plugs into your ears.

I think you can embed them in the silicone when you do the moulding, then drill through from the canal side to open a channel to the phone outlet?

I did, and frankly they were hopeless. You'll be much better off getting these:
http://www.meelec.com/product_p/tipset3-tf35l-mrg-cl.htm
I tried the DIY custom ones on a pair of UE SuperFi 3 Studio 'phones, which I've always had issues with, getting a proper seal using the supplied eartips. I just couldn't get the custom ones to seat properly, and I have got custom tips on a pair of Etymotics, so I know how to fit them. The MEE Electronics triple flange tips are the only ones I've found that fit larger acoustic tubes on UE and Sennheiser's, and really fit well and give a good seal. Keep an eye on their site, their M6 Sport 'phones are outstanding, and they do special offers, recently down to around $26, but just before Christmas they had a holiday offer reduced to $15.99, and $6 postage, so I paid less than £20, and they're brilliant, amazingly comfortable, with excellent bass once they're burned in. Good detail, too.
Unless you pay £90 for properly made custom 'tips, forget the DIY ones, get the MEE triple flange tips.

Might work. Would have to be a reasonable channel to compensate for any squishing in the ear.

For a couple of quid I suppose it's worth a punt.

I normally suffer from the same problem but got some CX680 at Christmas which have an odd fin type thing that hooks it securely in your ear so far they haven't fallen out.

I've always found Comply TX-400 Foam Tips very good. Good fit and isolation. Hardly feel them once in. They don't last as long as some others, but. Uses thats the price oh pay or comfort.

made them up this morning.
And they seem to work OK. Admittedly I now look a bit special needs and if you see me on the 6:41 to paddington with these in, you have my permission to ignore me.

They stay in place while putting my scooter helmet on too which is handy. Although it's a bit painful taking the helmet off as it rolls the plug out and there's not a lot of room to get my head, my interplanetary radar ears and the plugs out.

Not quite as silencing as jamming the buds in the ear canal (prob 90% as good though).

That does kindof look like you've just wrapped some fake Blutack round normal earphones!

Still, if you like the Smurf look...... 😉
