Some will disagree but its localish to you: East Z East.

Also- please go for a drink in the northern quarter. I like it here:

In town, Akbars on Deansgate or EastZEast on Blackfriars? Both quite expensive though.

Near piccadilly? Sod all that poncey nonsense. Keep it real with 3 curries and rice for a fiver in the northern quarter. Best curry in town by a mile

Then go for a beer in some of the great bars around it

This'n'That vs. Yadgars = not much between them TBH.

haven't been in a while, but Yadgars was always better than This n That IME.

my tips:

This n That - cheapest and certainly the most cheerful.
Yadgar - probably the best all rounder
Al Faisal - best dal, generally most 'home-cookingy'
Marharba - best nan bread (possibly the best i have ever had anywhere)

i do love the northern quarter, used to eat there 6 days a week when i was working in the city centre 😆

Is the Plaza Cafe closed these days? That would certainly have catered for the OP's need for lowbrow feasting...

did you find that Yadgar's takeaway portions were much more generous than the eat-in ones?

Al Faisal for food and The Fringe on Swan Street for beer.
🙂

All the Northern Quarter curry places are good, but if you want to avoid Jemima and Sophie braying into their iPersonalities, walk a little further for a drink:

Lower Turks Head, Angel & Marble Arch on Rochdale Road.
Fringe on Swan Street, then down Oldham Street trying each pub until you're back at your hotel.

If you fancy something a bit different, The Northern Quarter Bar & Grill is fantastic.
The chef is a Fergus Henderson fan - so for good meat in Manchester it's very hard to beat.
As it were.

Used to go there after gigs at the International.
Hottest food I've ever tasted.

Before enjoying your curry go and have a pint in any Joey Holts pub. Cheap beer, fresh from the brewery up the road and full of character.

Yadgar was excellent, appalling decor, awful, awful furniture, grubby etc but amazing food, my kind of hole. Dhal was superb, lamb on bone, breads superb was very good... great recommendation thanks. Off for a pint or two now!
