Is there a best way of repairing these without sand papering my thighs, or am I destined for cold balls and a restraining order?

I have a nice pair of HebTroCo jeans that are too nice to throw away.

Awesome, thanks scruffy. I’ll be sending them off for repair. That’s so cool.

Sew a patch in?

My oldest jeans become house jeans. Current house jeans have had several crotch patches added. It's not like they are going to be judged by the fashion police. Perfect for wearing while cleaning things with bleach/ having a fight with the garden

Nope, you need to darn them, there is a hand loom you can get to do this, my missus has some and I have a pile of knackered jeans to fix!

How well do the hand looms work? I'm interested in one as an easier way of patching clothes.

No idea yet, will report back when I finally get round to it. You may be waiting some time.

From the video it looks straightforward but it effectively results in a coarsely woven fabric, laid over the hole and stitched in on three sides doesn't it? How is that better than a sewn on patch?

So if you read the comments it seems it's just a cover and you stitch the hole from behind. That's not the best video but the only one I could find, IIRC darning results in a stronger repair.

This! I've got several pairs of Levis 511 and others and  can't remember the last time I wore a pair out.

I suppose a lot depends on the particular (cough) shape of your body.

Had mine patched for about a tenner.

Interesting. Did it reduce the friction when you wore jeans after?
