Remember the video of a cop assaulting a rider at a critical mass in New York? Somebody posted a link to it a (good) while ago. At the time, there was a lot of discussion about whether the cyclist might have been previously at fault.
Well, the cop has been fired for his actions which suggests that it was exactly what it looked like; unprovoked assault. More information (and the video) here http://road.cc/content/news/2400-cyclist-shoving-ny-cop-gets-push-force

weird. I hope the copper got the book thrown at him
I have to say though, that critical mass doesn't really do cyclists many favours, simply alienating them from the rest of society. there is enough tension between cyclists and other road users already - I don't see the point in making things worse.
The copper is still a complete unit though.
