My eldest lad was allegedly involved in a scrap at school today. His mum was called, she left work to go to the school as requested by the deputy head to collect him as he was being suspended for 2 days.
When she arrived, it turned out that they'd rung the wrong parent and it was another kid with the same first name who'd been scrapping.
Muppets.

Anyway, I remember when fights happened at our school. Parents were never called and you had to do far worse than having a dust up to get suspended. We got a slap or whacked with something like a piece of wood or a slipper.
Our english teacher had a tennis shoe that he'd enthusiastically whack across your hand if you committed relatively minor offences. Such as laughing or calling him "bogey beard" or "****ybollocks".
Eventually, this tennis shoe deteriorated to the point where it was just a sole, a flappy, whippy sole that kind of wrapped around your palm on impact.
He called it "Dallas Ray", after the character in Dallas who was called Ray CREBBS. At the start of a lesson, he would tap it menacingly on his desk, whispering to us that we were about to experience "The Pain". It really was painful and indeed it did creb.

The tennis shoe sole eventually had tape wrapped around the heel, forming a handle. Then, in black marker, he drew a swastika on it.
He was one of a number of sadistic nutters in paid positions of authority at our school.

We all thought the it was funny and took the p1ss out of one another as we in turn got a dose of old Dallas Ray.

If that happened nowadays, it'd make the national news.

my headmaster used to keep a drumstick for the purposes of caning people found to be transgressing rules. You only ever got caned once, after that there was no way you'd want to run the risk of a second occurrence

me and three mates got the cane in front of the whole school for calling a fat lass miss piggy although it was on a fairly regular basis.
anyway, we got caned, it hurt so much that i wanted to cry but started laughing, this in turn caused the other 3 to start laughing.
the sadistic deputy head proceded to give us another lash for laughing....

Reminds me of various 'punishments' dished out by teachers at my secondary school.
One teachers favorite was to throw a blackboard duster (the wood backed type)at your head if not paying attention.Another would give you a slap around the back of the head for the same.
If you upset any of the P.E. teachers tho, they would easily get their own back on the footie pitch. Two footed tackle/lunge from behind, anyone??
Was once called into the deputy heads office because he had been 'informed' about me writing something offensive on the cloakroom wall. After receiving the obligatory stinging slap on the palm of the hand with the cane,he then told me the name of the lad who had told him,"Because I hate a grass!" he said.

I got thrashed by sadistic teachers throughout my school days - from the age of seven onwards.

Never did me any harm.

In fact, I reckon that it helped me to become what I am today - an anti-authoritarian leftie, hell-bent on overthrowing the existing social order 8)

and a old woodwork reacher, who taught my dad at the same school once hit me on the hand with a wooden mallet, for messing with a wood chisel while he was talking.
and a ex pro rl playing maths teacher hit me on the head with a bunch of keys cutting my head open.
i called him a fat bastid, he then got me in a head lock so i got a handfull of his beard and pulled it all out of his face....

The head at my primary school made a seven-year-old take off his shoes and touch his toes, then whacked him across the arse with his own shoe. What sort of sicko hits a seven-year-old?

when i was at school in the 70s a lot of the teachers were say in their 50s, proper old style teacher.
punishment was what they did, some of them will have been teaching in the early 50s.
3 teachers at my middle school taught my dad, and they were proper sadistic basstids...

I had a chemistry teacher whose run-up, (yes you read right, he took a run up) was the entire length of the science block, before slapping you on the arse with a a rolled up copy of the Economist on the way past....

I shudder past every news-stand.

Until then I had no idea what premature ejaculation meant.... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

We all went on a trip to Wembley to watch the England schoolboys. We all had a major doss and ended up being lined up, facing the wall of the stadium, whilst Mr Hardacre whacked each of us one by one on the arse with a cricket bat.

He showed great presence of mind, remembering to bring his cricket bat like that.

Thanks Gary that brings back memories of Miss johnson, 70's tight tee-shirts and the long walk from the door, across the front of assembly to her seat by the window, as a silent group of year 9 boys looked on.... happy days ๐Ÿ˜

Downhillsquirrel,
Happy memories for me of Mrs Smith my German teacher, the only lesson where I used to sit right at the front of the class instead of skulking away at the back.
The fact that she wore really short skirts & more often than not used to sit on the edge of my desk, with acres of thigh showing, whilst giving the lessons had nowt to do with my decision to sit there of course..... ๐Ÿ˜›

I read stuff about sadistic **** teachers, and it did stir up resentful feelings...

And then some ****er distracted us all, with recollections of sexy teachers what we had a crush on....

Yes, we had the sadistic bastards, but I have much more lasting memories of some of the female teachers.

Miss Smith is the first one (at primary school) I remember; she would give you a cuddle, if you were upset, or you did something really good. She was so soft, and warm...

I was lucky. There followed a succession of soft, warm, kind, caring, loving female teachers, all the way through to secondary school.

And one or two, in secondary school. I was in trouble quite often, and the teachers assigned to deal with the likes of me, were always female, and lovely. And soft and warm...

I have come to realise, that such experiences have greatly influenced my ideals of potential sexual partners.

Ooooh..... Yes please, Miss..........

I'll never forget the *CRAK* the wooden board rubber made as it bounced off my scalp, became a bit of a recurrent feature of my maths lessons.

Is anyone suggesting that it is appropriate to hit a child here? I work in a secondary school with a number of 'interesting' pupils. I do not ever want to be in the position where I am allowed to strike a child by virtue of my job. Or for any other reason. I'm ashamed that some people feel that it is appropriate. Comments above show that it engenders resentment.

Terrahawk- did you go to school in Newport perchance?

AdamW; you woon't have liked the 'orrible bastards I had as PE teachers. Really nasty insecure power-trip sadistic ****s. Took great delight in making us suffer.

Actually, there was one, you mightuv liked. One of the gentlest fellers I've ever met, I think. You know the sort, you think; 'why aren't all teachers like this?'.

In a predominantly 'White' school, in 1980's East London, where ignorance and prejudce was rife, he was a proper beacon of strength, for me. What a good bloke. Mixed-Race feller. Made me feel I was 'equal'.

Top bloke.

At primary school, my sole technique for dealing with attacking bullies (other than my rapier wit) was to simply spin very fast in a circle with arms outstretched and fists clenched. One happy day, and with this simple method, I laid big Billy Thugface out cold. As he was medivac'd to the "sick bay", I was escorted to our Jabba the Hutt-esque headmistress for one of her famed beatings. Luckily, my story was corroborated by the entire playground - and even now, I can still see Billy, woozy from my lucky strike, being dragged to her lair...

Yeah but no one is smacking you now [are they?]

So when you were being smacked, you were bad. Therefore smacking doesn't work.

I was caned at our [s]borstal[/s] school at least twice a week and on what turned out to be my last day of high school (3rd day back after the summer holidays into 5th year -(now year 11 - what's that all about), the deputy head did his usual waft of the bendy bamboo stick at my hand but that morning before school I'd had a pretty tasty hiding off of my old man which proved to be the one that finally broke the camels back and very nearly the deputy heads nose. AS the cane came down toward my hand and without any preplanning on my part, I pulled my hand away at the last second. Don't know why, I just bottled it, Deputy head went mad and started hitting me on my now turned back. I saw my arse with this and punched him square in the fizzog. Police called, me marched off and in foster care for two weeks that very day, Best thing that ever happened to me. They should bring back caning immediately.
If I'd got a son at school and they'd call me in to take him home for fighting and it wasn't him, I'd tell him to go and find the arse he really can't stand, chin him and then do the suspension anyway, I'd be right fed up if I'd been called out of work for nothing.

MrNutt- I've been teaching for a while now and I'm quite happy to wade in and separate the warring factions. Got the scabbed shins to show for it too.

I use repartee, an interest in the pupil and (as far as I can manage) interesting teaching to engage pupils. It takes longer with some than it does with others.

As for terrahawks orginal position, being the parent 'other' child. I'd be well miffed with the situation and I would ask to speak with the headteacher about it. And then make my views known, quietly.

he he. I like this thread. We had some right sadistic bstards in my schools. And being a tad on the edge at the time, I saw quite a few of them. I got the pump from one teacher on a regular basis (didn't hurt) but at the main school I got the cane once, that sorted me out, the pain was seriously nasty and there was no way I was going to have that experience again. Dropped me into line and I did alright.

I'd say the punishment rarely did the job but the teacher always did, some teachers command respect. Usually PE teachers but more often just big men in short sleeved shirts who've seen a lot. Shit-scary guys who still, even now look like they chew bolts for breakfast. Not sure how they deal with the current crop of knife wielding thugs but good luck to 'em. Corporal punishment worked for me just long enough to get me through my exams but I appreciate it's not the answer.

I tell you what though, the scariest thing about getting a wack was that they might tell my parents. Which is probably where things are wrong nowadays. I bet teachers are scared to tell parents nowadays that they have had to discipne a child in case they get punched. Personally, if my lad is punished he'll get a double bollocking from me when he gets home if I find out. Luckily for him he's a proper swot and all his teachers think he's great.
