[Closed] Copying Home Movie DVD to Computer

I have home movies that were copied from tape to DVD using a DVD recorder (TV tuner type). The DVD has just a Video-TS folder which contains the relevant files. How can I copy AND THEN PLAY (the important bit)the video to a Windows 8 machine? Is there an easy way or does it involve extra software?

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

DVDFab works well.

DVDFab seems a little expensive; unless I'm reading it wrong.

.ts is Transport Stream.

Have you tried playing them with VLC ?

No I haven't tried VLC. What file do I actually click on though? One of the .VOB?

IIRC you don't click on individual files, you'd play the disc as a whole.

Use Handbrake and rip them to something sensible.

Yep ripping DVDs is a minefield.

As they are home movies they will be compressed but not encrypted.

Just use Handbrake to rip them and create a file.

Yes VLC will work as will Handbrake for converting them. For VLC you can click on the directory holding all the files or on individual files themselves. If I where you I would convert them to a more up to date format with Handbrake and make sure they are backed up somewhere.

I use MakeMKV. Free Beta software (at the present), just update the access code on a monthly basis. Dead easy to use!

Handbrake looks like the best option.

Many thanks.

I use Handbrake too. Strange name for a video convertor, but it's free and it works really well.
