I've had a complete ar5e of a day trying to remove a trojan horse which resulted in GMER causing black screen of youcantworkanymore.

However, I've managed to use Ubuntu to grab the files I need and stick them on a USB card and transfer to a clean laptop. Now I'm trying to find reassurance in these files not carrying across the virus'.

Anyone have any ideas/experience of this?

Depends on the type of file. Text documents, no. Some word documents, possibly. Images, not that I'm aware of, executables - sure.

Hmm, ok. They're a mixture of Office 2007 files, pdfs, graphics/images, and probably other misc files. Can't think of any exe stuff.

Guess it'll help it AV on the other machine will scan USB at deepest level before transfer.
