I’ve fancied going back to Oslo after a very fleeting visit in the depths of winter. Copenhagen also looks cool for a mooch round. Late summer seems to be the best time to visit for mild temperatures as I have no desire to visit places when it’s late 20s and higher.
Any thoughts or reconditions for hopping through a few places. There is a ferry between Oslo and Copenhagen which seems a good trip.
we are thinking of heading to Norway for a few weeks train/bus travel in the summer. been twice with the bikes, and it is amazing, but fancy a just mooching about trip.
so rough plan is Oslo, train to Tromso, then pick place up on the way back down. Bodo is nice, Bergen is ace too.
just gonna bum about with no set plan.
Copenhagen is pretty gentrified now that they have done the riversides up - still a cool place. Train to Stockholm is easy enough, if a bit long. That's a great city.
Copenhagen is great to visit.
Was there a couple of years ago for 4 days. Plenty to see and do and easy to get around.
We are planning another visit and will probably do late Summer/early Autumn. Went in April last time and it was blummin freezing.
Köpenhamn is really clos e to Malmö and a train is a really easy way to get across, then head up to Göteborg and then to Oslo. Public transport will be your saviour!
You could also go east from Malmö, hit Stockolm, then ferry to Talinn or Helsinki. Talinn's a lovely city btw.
Edited to add: Höga Kusten is amazing pretty much all the way through the year: https://www.hogakusten.com/sv
Copenhagen is always worth visiting at any time of the year :-). Masses to do to suit all tastes. Except maybe mountaineering 🙂

Check this but I don't think the train goes to Tromso. Furthest north in Norway is Bodo, though I believe there's a line from Narvik going east into Sweden.
As an alternative to the train, consider the Hurtigruten ferry between Tromso and Bodo instead
We were in Copenhagen 2 years ago, according to my FB memories. Would love to go back in warmer weather.
Visited Oslo last summer, 1 day was beautiful weather and it’s such a nice place to be when the sun is shining. Would recommend the Munch museum (make sure you have cocktails on the roof bar) and a drink in the old post office. We didn’t do it, but there were these little rentable floating saunas you could swim off that looked mint.
RM.
We were in Oslo in Oct half term and it was great - I’d say better than Copenhagen apart from lack of the Tivoli. You need to go to the Fram museum. Apparently in the summer lots of people swim in the harbour.
Top Oslo tip is not to get the fast train in from the airport - the normal one is only a few minutes slower and much cheaper.
In theory SJ will get you from Copenhagen over the bridge to Oslo but you might have to change trains in Gothenburg, which is on my list of places to visit.
Done weeks at both Stockholm and Copenhagen with the kids - we had a great time Vasa in Stockholm wow (managed to avoid the abba museum) and Copenhagen equally good - got the train across to Roskilde to do the viking ship museum. Really easy to get around in both locations.
got the train across to Roskilde to do the viking ship museum
Is that as good as people say it is?
Other day trip from Copenhagen that’s meant to be good is going up to Helsingør to admire Hamlet’s house.
If you are that way inclined, Copenhagen zoo is one of the best we've been to.
It was really easy to get the train to Roskilde from Copenhagen- its a nice place itself with a really nice square with a Cathedral . Mrs Olddonald did the cathedral. I enjoyed the Viking ship museum - but I am a history geek. Best collection of woodworking axes ever!!! (wish i'd taken a photo for the Singletrack axe / woodworking geeks) they make replica viking ships and you can go out on one round the bay- I didn't (wish i had). We had good weather so sat in the square for a nice coffee. So yes i would recommend it.

And if you’re up that way there’s a little train that goes to Hornbæk, a beautiful little seaside town that will remind you of the places you imagine you went as a kid.

There is. It goes through Abisko which has a big hostel and is stunning in autumn colours.
Mum went to Aalborg with work and said it was good. Not as impressed with Odense mind you.

Largs? 🤔

Lack of imagination on your part 🙂
Get the train (tog) to Tangen then a taxi to Kragero for a day or two. Fantastically pretty

I was thinking Silloth...
No personal experience to share but I watched the GCN video of their tour around Denmark and it looks amazing! Always wanted to visit but this shows how great it would be to do by bike. Search "Bikepacking The World's Most Friendly Country Wasn't What We Expected" on YouTube
