Anybody know if the '05 year Golf has an Aux In port? If not, what's a good way to connect an iPhone?

I don't know about the Aux port but I can recommend the XCarLink. I have one fitted to my Golf Mk4 and it plugs in between the stereo and the CD changer (the changer still works too). It occasionally skips tracks for no reason but is WAY better than any FM transmitter...

I believe the Dension kit is quite good too:

<edit - I read iPod not iPhone, sorry. iPod works fine but my iPhone will connect but won't charge and goes into flight mode (this may have been fixed with latest update...)>

if its the same stereo as an '05 octavia then possibly not - I know they didnt equip the aux input version until '06

does it look like this:

probably need to look on a golf forum

otherwise the xcarlink/densions etc are pretty good - fitted one to the octavia in about 10 minutes (hardest parts were removing the trim and getting the box of gubbins to fit behind the head unit

H&K Drive and Play also pretty good for older ipods - currently running one installed under the seat and pluggeed into the aux in adapter I fitted - nice little screen and control wheel (not touch/iphone compatible though)

I've recently done just this on our Focus. Ford want a huge amount to fit a socket, but the part is £20 from a dealer and you just have to pop the stereo an glove box out, plug the lead in and drill a hole for the socket

Now there is also more than one way to do this including leads that plug into the cd changer socket and little wire splicing/soldering jobs. All fairly simple.

Obviously this might not apply to a VW, but just google 'Golf auxiliary socket fitting' or something similar and I bet you'll find out how to do it from a car audio forum or similar.

I'd imagine it'll be cheaper, neater and more reliable than any aftermarket tuner

Apple changed the charging from 12v Firewire to 5v USB, you need a converter to charge from equipment that worked only on 12v (like car adaptors).

Bloody annoying of Apple to want another £20 off you but there you go.
