Do you need it to be a card? Just get a usb one. Pretty universal and very cheap. In the old days when pc bits were expensive I have cut and bent the bracket to fit.

It's a small (smaller than a standard atx case, I'll guess micro atx standard) case on your pc I'm guessing.. So you'll need a low profile card and bracket.

Asuming the card is low profile it should come (hopefully) with a long bracket that sounds like what you've got, and a short stubby bracket for smaller cases. If yes, you can swap the brackets over to the correct size, if not, you'll need to exchange the card for a low profile one with the shorter bracket.

Or just be ghetto and remove the bracket all together assuming the card fits inside the case ok.

I tend to prefer a proper card but I'm currently using a USB dongle that cost about £12..seems to work fine.. But on a small case you may well not want to use up spare usb slots.

If its in your garage, all WiFi will struggle.

Buy these:

Hook one up to your router, one up to the ethernet port on the garage PC. They plug into power outlets, and carry ethernet across them.

Don't know about the powerplugs but another alternative is a wifi extender and then a network cable between that and the PC. The advantage here is that you can then stick the wifi extender up somewhere high in the garage where you can get a good signal from the house.

The link seems to work ok for me rottweiler, but go to the Argos website and look for:

TP-LINK 500Mbps Nano Powerline - Twin Pack.

Product code:427/3888.

I'm dubious about WiFi and garages as it all depends on a)how far away from the house it is. Whereas powerline units generally work ok.

Do the power things work?

I have now used them in three different houses without an issue!
