Yeah, I remember that. Was kind of frustrating but still good. There was a western themed game on the same lines as well, was it Desperadoes? It wasn't as good though.

Yep, played 1 and 2 and loved 'em. Tricky bastard hard in the later levels though.
Brilliant games, lovingly conjured the atmos of the old Sunday afternoon war films.

Nothing like lining up all your guys either side of a doorway, deliberately triggering the alarm, then massacring the squads sent out through the door!
Except for the satisfaction of a perfectly timed run and knifing by the Green Beret...
Loved both 1 and 2, and Desperadoes, played through em like a fiend.
Tried Commandos 3, didn't really get into it.
I might even have a disc upstairs for either commandos 1 or desperadoes.
I'm off for a root through some draws.

All the commandos are on steam.
I loved those games, especially the whole "I hope nobody finds this huge pile of bodies I am building up behind this hut" thing, but by eck they were hard!
I never got past a level in the second game where you basically had to do the D-Day landings with 5 blokes in a boat. Bah!

Ahhhhhh..... Commando on the C64. TranzX Living on video on the boot loader before the game started. Cheekily 'transferred' to a WHSmiths 15 minute tape for the lads.
