So they carried out a test of a nuclear reaction without any ration shielding then realsed the results onto a website rather than a peer reviewed journal? Hmmmm to say that I'm sceptical doesn't come close.

Sounds great but we've been here many times before

Data needs to be peer reviewed ( not just observed by "independent experts"...makes no mention of who which is always a bit suspicious) and experiment needs to be independently replicated and confirmed....lots still to do even if ( and it's a very big if) everything gets confirmed so don't hold your breath.

If it really worked it'd be on kickstarter.

What gonefishin said.

If they wish to retain any credibility whatsoever, they'd have opened their research up for peer review before announcing the findings.

I've spoken with a couple of people directly involved in the field of research at JET. From what I've been able to glean, the theory is sound but the engineering difficulties are immense. Even if the new ITER reactor in France goes 100% to plan and throws up no problems whatsoever, we'd still be between 35-50 years away from being able to build a practical fusion plant to supply electricity to the grid.

The current energy generation strategy is to buy as much time as possible using renewables, fossil fuels and conventional fission generation until the new technology becomes feasible.
