MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
being a tight, stubborn sod, i have always carried out most of my own spannering, however i think iv'e met my match in the clutch on the clio.
anyone done this? do i have to get the engine out? am looking on other forums, but this is the oracle, after all.
Not sure re this car but in general you need to do so much work to get at it you might as well have taken it out anyway
Earlier this year I replaced the clutch in our petrol Fabia, with help
and a proper 2 poster hoist. Done with engine in car.
It took most of a day, but only cost £90 for the parts.
Basically its down to how determined and physically strong you are, whilst
getting the gearbox out is ok , putting it back by lifting it up and pushing it back in was a bit tough.
If you are prepared to spend all weekend on it with a hoist and pulling the engine and gear box out then go ahead , you will need help to get the thing in and out of the car.
Support the engine and drop the subframe slightly if its a mk2 clio. I have done mine 3 times on my drive way.
update, did it, twice. a ball ache, built a hoist out of scaffold poles and a winch, undid engine mounts both ends to move engine across, dropped shafts out, twisted gearbox out of the way. to put back in, because there isn't room for the alignment tool, renault forum said superglue the clutch plate to the pressure plate, centrally, then rebuild. anyway, used to much glue, the b****ard wouldn't disengage when i tried to change gear. undid it all again, 2 tiny spots of glue and rebuilt it, second time 4hrs. works fine now, £97 inc gear oil.
i claim my reward. 0h is that it?
[edi]t read the posts properly first
Good effort sir, replacing a clutch is way way beyond my spannering skill level.
