Car is ford focus tdci mk2 "06 reg at 89k mileage ..notice this morning when im driving to work that its making this grinding noise whenever clutch is pressed ...though its just making noise on the halfway bit but disappear when its fully press to the floor.. Have no problems changing gears at all.. Its only this grinding noise sounds scary.

Is it time for new clutch kit? 🙁 How much expenses i am looking at?

Any info about this is appreciated. Cheers.

can you record it? it might be the bearing in the dmf between primary and secondary sides. on the other hand it might just be the release bearing and that means a new concentric slave cylinder but thats a gearbox off job anyway.

if the gearbox does have to come off, absolutely fit a new slave cylinder.

the biggest expensive will be the labour to get the 'box off.

Yeah theres a bearing between the two halves of the dmf. If it gets a bit worn the pressure of applying the clutch pedal increases the friction between the primary and secondary side and reduces the isolation of the dmf. This can allow the combustion vibrations to be transmitted into the trans and cause gear rattle, particualarly if there are no funny noises when you are driving along with the clutch pedal out.

I think this is what might be happening. You probably ought to get it to a garage to do a proper diagnosis, and i would be tempted to get it fixed rather than leave it in case something breaks and leaves you stranded.

Quick google suggests about 300 notes for a dmf and about 200 for a clutch kit, hopefully including a slave cylinder. plus labour. ouch.

best get it into a decent indie garage.

Actually, ignore me.
It was the flywheel we had done although they said it may be clutch release bearing to start with on first inspection.
